Full Moon in Virgo

March 19, 2011  11:11 am PDT

This Full Moon in Virgo is going to be big one! Well…it will be closer to the Earth (lunar perigee)than it has been in approximately 18.6 years due to the way the Moon Wanders through its 360 degree orbit which warbles like a spinning top. This is nothing new regarding this so-called Supermoon that you may have heard some astrologers speaking about its impact upon the planet. It will appear some 14 percent larger at sunset on March 19, 2011 if the skies are clear that evening.

Certain persons can feel the pull between the Sun and the Moon during its 3 night full moon phase. The gravitational effects of the moon on the tides is evident on a daily basis. The pull is stronger during the days surrounding the New and Full Moons which can contribute to earthquakes with a higher magnitude as has been the case with Haiti  on January 12, 2010 two days prior to the New Moon, Chile on February 27, 2010 during a full moon, Japan on December 21, 2010  during a full moon, and now the current earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan on March 11, 2011 occurring between the new and full moon (although many scientists would label me a lunatic for even suggesting this). There were quakes in Japan a few days closer to the new moon but it seems that something significant was going to happen with so many planets in the Sign of Pisces (Dreams, Creativity, Ideals, Victims))  which is associated with Neptune in Astrology.  I spoke about the Ancient God of the Sea in my New Moon in Pisces post on March 4, 2011. In his myth Poseidon would stir up the seas with his trident or thrust it upon the ground causing earthquakes and tsunamis. The rift in japan has caused it to shift geologically and consciously. Neptune in our charts can cause little earthquakes in our personal foundation and a tidal wave of emotion when we breakthrough an illusion. Certainly, the vast images captured in Japan illustrate the magnitude of devastation and has shaken many of us around the world.  Since the moon affects the ocean tides it can certainly have an affect upon bodily fluids and the brain’s Cranial Sea.  In fact, the word lunatic is derived from the Latin word for moon which is Luna, because a lot of people would act crazy and wild during this time of the month. There is much debate around this theory but I notice a lot more lunacy during this time. So the current Lunar Cycle began with a New Moon in Pisces and now a Full Moon in Virgo.

This Full Moon in Virgo is not only reflecting the Sun’s light but also the recent dark events that have come to light. Virgo is associated with the Winged Messenger Mercury who has certainly been spreading a great deal of news around the world. Modern Communication in all forms has brought our attention to something and diverted it from something else. Virgo wants to make sense out of the non-sense. Virgo is the Sign of Work, Health and Service and reflects the theme of this full moon. How can we be of service during a time of crisis? Especially when the tragedy is somewhere else? Many people will volunteer their work in every form of aid possible. Health and Service Workers of every field are deployed to where disaster hits. When all can donate energy in a variety of ways. There are many concerned about the effect of the Nuclear Reactors damaged during the quake. Prayers and visualizations from around the globe are being sent to all affected by this catastrophic event. Now is the time to repair the damage and to heal the collective wound.

As I mentioned, Virgo is health and service oriented and it is the Full Moon to focus upon our personal health issues and to commit ourselves to a healthier lifestyle. It can be a time to be mindful of the health of others, in particular the caregivers in our lives. A lot of Virgo energy is channeled through the many caregivers who are often overworked and unappreciated. Our Health Care System seems be inundated with problems and lacking the resources that we are in dire need of. That is why it is important to heed to the words:Physician Heal Thy Self. We need to explore ways in which we can heal ourselves in Body, Mind and Spirit. There are many healers in this world, but we are our best healer in the long run. I am grateful that there are those who can set broken bones, stitch wounds and save lives. However, I think about the saying: Broken bones mend faster than broken spirits. We need to integrate both Allopathic and Alternative Health Practices. It can be very frustrating when one side dismisses the benefits of the other. Without a healthy planet we cannot expect to be healthy ourselves. I have discovered than when I help to heal others I am also helping to heal myself.

Too much analysis can lead to paralysis

Being a Virgo, I completely concur with the above quote, because Virgo is the Sign of the Analyst.  Anyone with Virgo prominent in their birth chart can be a stickler to detail. Too much detail can derail us from our beingness. Virgo is associated with the stomach and intestines (how we digest our spiritual and emotional foods). It is the Sign of the Perfectionist, and it can be difficult to put away the voice of the Inner Critic that resides in us all. People born with the Moon in Virgo tend to be quite critical of their Self and Other. A Virgo Moon seems to be emotionally aloof because they need to know the facts of the matter before they can open the gate to their Secret Garden of emotion. By comparing, judging and needing to know why, we steer away from the center of our being. Of course we require these cognitive tools at times because Virgo wants to be of service, to work and is health focused. In fact, the Medical Health Care Profession uses the symbol of Mercury’s Winged Staff: Caduceus as their emblem. The two snakes intertwine like the double helix of DNA.

So, the Moon is reflecting the Light of the Sun in Pisces. Sensitive, spiritual and dreamy Pisces. Both of the Signs Virgo and Pisces are very connected. Healing our Spirit is just as important as taking care of our body. It is here that the elements of Water (Pisces) and Earth (Virgo) can be integrated. Too much water will turn the earth into mud, while too much earth can absorb the water resulting in a dry and barren landscape within. Some of us need to be like the Virgo Hermit and go within to perfect itself through a higher ideal because something requires fixing. The Solar Pisces energy may inspire us to be more creative, musical, poetic, dreamy and mystical. Some of us need to get out of our mind and just let go. Those who are usually very hardworking will want to let loose and escape from all the overwhelming details of the Mundane world and dive deeply into the Sensual world. If you do need to escape, remember: Nothing In Excess. So avoid drinking like a fish even if you feel like a fish out of water.
Everyone is born with the Moon in a particular sign.  The Moon is how we feel and how we howl. It is our connection to our mothers and memories. When the moon transits or passes through a particular Sign and House it can affect each person differently. Virgo Moons tend to be motherly but need to be careful about being a martyr. There is thieving with some forms of giving.  If you were born while the Moon was in either Taurus or Capricorn (also earth signs) you may feel more practical, a need to be grounded or you will bury your feelings.  If you were born with the Moon in Scorpio (a water sign) you may feel less energetic and slow down enough to heed to your own intuition.  While the Natal Moon in a fire sign like Leo can feel less flamboyant as the Virgo Moon’s earth may put out the flames for a few days.

Whether or not you feel the energy of the Full Moon, may its affect upon you teach you more about your inner (spiritual) world and your place in the outer (secular) world. It is a great time to work with your hands in the intrinsic arts and crafts of our planet Earth.

New Moon in Pisces

March 4, 2011

12:45 pm  PST

The Sun and Moon are conjunct in the Water Sign Pisces beginning a new lunar cycle. The Sun (our motivation), Moon (our mood), Mercury (our communication), Mars (our action), Uranus (our humanity) and Chiron (our healing) are all transiting the Sign of the Peacemaker. This also reminds me of the current flow of events taking place in the Middle East with all of these planets in the Sign of Illusion…and now a veil has been lifted and people are protesting and rising up to the social injustice that needs to be healed through effective communication, action and humanity. There is no such thing as a Peaceful War in a Military sense. There is a way to peace, Peace is the way…Pisces is Peace.  It is the Peace Maker. We can protest war by shouting: Peace in the Middle East!  It is the angry and wounded person who is not at peace and would attempt to take a piece out of you. However, we need to make peace with those disowned aspects of ourselves. When we are at peace with our own humanity we are able to be at peace with others. I face the East where the Sun rises and meditate upon the peace that resides within us all…letting go of all obstacles that block the light of our transcendence.

I just watched the film Inception last night and it truly is an allegory that mirrors the theme of illusion…dreams…escape…seeking resolve…with the element of water in its many forms. Pisces being the symbolic ruler of the sometimes murky waters of the subconscious mind. We want to make our daydreams a reality so when the time comes to surrender to a higher power our faith can feel challenged. Pisces has the Two Fish as its symbol. That is where the sayings: drinks like a fish or to get sloshed comes from.  Pisces Energy is so sensitive that it can be like an emotional sponge taking on the suffering of others. A lot of Spiritual Advisors, Counselors, Psychologists, etc. have Pisces prominent in their chart. Like most sensitive types, there needs to be caution when making sacrifices for others at the expense of one’s own self as it can become easy to fall into the Messiah Trap and become the Martyr.  Yet complete surrender of our own ego to help another is an escape from ourselves. Think of the Symbol of the Two Fish as Opposites.  There are moments when we need to dive deep into our subconscious sea to discover the secret treasures that are buried there, yet it is also important to surface and breathe life into what was discovered in the depths of the imagination. It was Albert Einstein who said: imagination is far greater than knowledge. Daring to be different and to go against the flow of consensus reality has been a struggle for many spiritual beings.  So Pisces is the Sign of the Dreamer, Storyteller, Poet, Artist, Musician and Mystic. (Dionysius, Christ, Buddha are a few of the many Peace Makers that came to Earth to Sacrifice, a word that means: to make sacred.) This reminds me of the ancient story of the Boy and the Dolphin:
In Ancient Greece there are many artifacts adorned with a Boy and a Dolphin. Many cultures had the Dolphin rather than the Two Fish that appear in our modern day Zodiac. Today, some people still use the Two Dolphins as a symbol for Pisces. Anyway, the story is about a boy who feeds a dolphin that begins a beautiful friendship. They would meet everyday and play in the ocean until sunset. The boy was seen blissfully riding upon the Dolphin.  Some say that the boy was an orphan.

One day the Dolphin came in search of his friend only to discover that the child had drowned. The Dolphin carried his friend to shore and remained there with the boy where it also died. To this day Dolphins are known to pair bond for life and to take an ailing companion to shore and remain with it until the end.
Here we have the Compassion, Love and Sacrifice of the Martyr: the one who feels the profound pain and suffering of others.  It is important to be empathetic and sympathetic, to place one’s foot in someone else’s flipper, so to speak. To offer unconditional love takes great courage and compassion. We also find the challenge of Letting Go in the story of the Boy and the Dolphin.  In Letting Go we are able to transcend the obstacles that hold us back.  Too many tears can cause us to drown in an ocean of self-pity. When the heart is full, the eyes overflow. Perhaps this is the New Moon of releasing some of that repressed emotion. Repression leads to depression. Time to make an impression!  We are all connected whether we are able to accept it or not. There is no such thing as being completely independant because we are all interdependant.  We live in a society that is drowning in the deception of grandiose illusion. People are so willing to let go of friends and lovers while they desperately hold on to objects that they really do not need and most likely don’t want.  An open hand can contain more water than a closed fist. The Dark Wizards of so-called success brainwash people into a belief system that instills a competitive edge to be Number One.  Nothing can be ONE all the time. Each number has a significant and relative value. I don’t believe that we are meant to be what we are, but who we are.  All is One.

Is there someone you need to forgive? Or a situation that you need to let go of?  This is a great Moon Cycle to begin the journey in healing ourselves and others. Forgiveness releases old wounds for everyone involved.  In forgiving ourselves we are better able to forgive others.  Is there someone that you know who needs some kind of support?  Take the time to let others know that you care. I personally love Random Acts of Kindness. This is a wonderful Moon to be in the water or even near it.  Be like the Dolphins and breathe in that salty sea air!  It is a night to use your imagination and create masterpieces of art, music and poetry. Pisces rules the feet which also makes it the Sign of the Dancer. What a relaxing way to let go by dancing to some amazing music to induce a trance-like state of being. Be careful not to drown in the haze of illusions. Neptune the planet associated with Pisces (Dreams and Illusions) was God of the Oceans and his daughters were the Mermaids. Neptune/Poseidon used his Trident to stir up the sea, causing earthquakes and tsunamis. The Sacred Oracle at Delphi (Dolphin) in Ancient Greece had inscribed above the Temple Threshold: Know Thyself and Nothing In Excess.
This is the last New Moon of the Astrological Year which begins again at the Spring Equinox. Remember the song: Row, row, row your boat…gently down the stream…merrily, merrily, merrily…life is but a dream…so are the Salmon dreaming when they swim against the stream returning to their place of birth? All rivers lead to the ocean. So Let Go and Flow!  Transcend the Ego and feel your self floating upon the sea of Peace, Love and Compassion. Gratitude.
