New Moon in Gemini

June 19, 2012  8:02 AM  PDT

The Sun and the Moon are currently doing a double take of the Sign of the Twins, Gemini…the last New Moon was also in Gemini. Being the sign of opposites and duality can become a brain teaser game of thoughts that are lost in translation. I would attempt to integrate any conflicting ideas that do not rest well with our heart. The majority of humans have two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, two hands that are perceived and received by the two brain hemispheres. So we believe what we perceive…or do not. We have two lungs to deeply breathe with receive the life giving air. Whenever I am conflicted regarding opposing energies I think about a battery and how it requires both positive and negative charges to function. Our thoughts become words as we use our two hands and two feet moving into action.

Cogito Ergo Sum translates: “I think, therefore I am”,  which was coined by the French philosopher Renee Descartes. Gemini, being an Air Sign, is a Creative Thinker or Genius. The New Moon is a great time to continue the journey toward the within. Our thoughts may turn inward, only to move outward, as we will want to communicate with others. A lot of Gemini types appear to have their head in the clouds…up to where they belong. However, it is important for Gemini to allow their feelings to be experienced in the heart, rather than the head. The heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of ~Blaise Pascal. Mercury, the Winged Messenger, ruler of Gemini is busy playing mind games with our sense of security in the Sign Taurus (Money, Possessions, Security, ). Think about what true security means. We may traverse down memory lane and want to complete any unfinished business both personal and professional.

Venus (Love, Harmony, Attraction)  is also conflicting the heart and head being retrograde in Gemini…yet here the head and the heart can meet upon a common ground which enables us to open up and articulate our emotions.

Gemini is the social butterfly that loves to flutter around and experience all of the variety of flowers in bloom. Sometimes the Social Gemini Moon can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children’s game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person’s ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context. Be mindful before speaking. In other words, put your mouth in gear before you speak (unless there is room in it for your foot).

Media has become overloaded and our minds downloaded with alot of negativity being reported in the news. There is just too much information at our disposal. We are being left to our own devices and experiencing the world through cyberspace. This is a great time to turn off the TV/Cell Phone/Computer and tune in to the transmission of the planet and all our relations on an organic level. We are the center of our universe. Everything we think and do has an impact upon ourselves and our immediate surroundings. If we are restless and require distraction, then perhaps we could learn to meditate while practising deep breathing. Gemini is associated with the lungs and nervous system. Think of ways to create Positive Action, then breathe life into it. Yes, the universe exists with both positive and negative energy. We need to bring any opposing forces together through integration.

A world in black and white, hath no colour. The Light Spectrum refuses no colour. How would we know day without night? Get outside and bear witness to the beauty that nature paints for us in every moment. As Albert Einstein said: Imagination is far greater than knowledge. Dare to be different. When you change your perception, you transform your world. Remember to respect that other people’s Way may differ from your own. Same planet, different worlds.

There are many myths about Mercury/Hermes, the Ancient Messenger God, who was also known as the Patron of both Merchants and Thieves, as well as surfers and skateboarders in modern time.. Thoughts and ideas can travel fast like quicksilver in the archetype of the Gemini Genius. I suggest reading about his myth, and also the story of his counterparts; the Egyptian Thoth and Norse Loki. This is the New Moon to begin a journal. Many people use journals for calendars, appointments and goals…rather than self-reflection and expression. Forget the attitude and think gratitude. Start focusing on the wins, rather than the losses in your life. Whatever you do, try to do it with an open mind and most importantly with an open heart.

One more time with feeling…

The Sun is in Gemini and the Moon is Full in the Sign of Sagittarius. This combo says: Think Big! It seems as though everything in nature is buzzing with communication, while the days are significantly longer and warmer we begin making plans for the summer. This is the Full Moon of Spontaneity! We need to get out of our heads and to expand our conscious awareness. Our thoughts can be direct and focused upon the goals that we aspire to achieve. Mercury (Communication) and Venus (Love and Attraction) Retrograde are also in curious Gemini which may be inundating some of us with too much information…keeping us in our head rather than our heart. Remember the Moon is about feeling and Venus about love…so Venus in Retrograde may be a reversal of how we relate to others. We may find our partners wanting to slow down, to reflect in quiet space or simply to take a break. Old feelings tend to surface and old lovers make an appearance. The rare celestial event of the Venus Eclipse crossing the Sun on June 5-6, 2012 could very well be a potent time to remove the veil of illusion when it comes to love. Love is expressed and experienced in many different and wonderful ways and can sometimes eclipse our rational way of interpreting Love. What or who gets in the way of what our heart truly desires? Rather than act upon impulse…we could tap into the pulse of the One Heart.

There is going to be a Partial Eclipse of the Moon when the Earth shadows the light of the Sun upon the lunar surface. This year it will be visible locally here in Vancouver but of course one can view the event online. Many Astrologers believe that the Lunar Eclipse affects the area in our charts that it is transiting. I often think of Bonnie Tyler’s song: Total Eclipse of the Heart whenever an eclipse occurs. We often eclipse the light within our own heart by too much rational thinking and judgement…be mindful of blocking the light by overshadowing others with our own projections whether positive or negative.
There is a wonderful Greek myth about Hercules and his mentor, Chiron. Chiron was the Wise (Sage) Centaur (half-human/half-animal) who was a Great Teacher. Teaching, education and higher learning are all associated with Sagitarius. One day, Hercules went to seek the counsel of his Wise Teacher, where upon his arrival, he was met by a group of Centaurs that were drinking wine. In the short version of this myth, Hercules became impatient and bored due to his Teacher being absent and began to also drink some wine. Later, when he was intoxicated, Hercules could hear the sound of hooves stomping upon the ground and became nervous. Lacking focus, Hercules reached for the arrows in his quiver and began to shoot aimlessly, until one of the arrows found his friend and teacher, Chiron, wounding him in his leg. Chiron forgave Hercules for his short sighted error. Thus, Chiron came to be known as the Wounded Healer. Here was a test of one’s faith.  Full Moons tend to draw out our energy and some of us will want to overindulge in food and drink, but we must be careful not to hurt others while in an inebriated state. Otherwise, we may not be wise in our buoyancy.

The Full Moon in June is often referred to as Strawberry Moon, Rose Moon and Honeymoon…which makes sense when we take a look around and see fresh strawberries growing, roses blooming and many couples marry. June is named after the Great Goddess of Rome: Juno. The longest day of the year occurs during this month in the Northern Hemisphere and so begins the long awaited season of Summer. A perfect Moon for love…mmmmmm…strawberries and roses…and some honey to sweeten the mood.
Indeed, this is the Full Moon to enjoy a social gathering in the outdoors with friends, family and colleagues. Sitting around a warm fire can imbue many philosophic conversations. Avoid too much gossip and remember; where one finger is pointing, three are ponting back. We all have our tales to tell, try to focus upon the stories that inspire. This is a fire moon that can raise the light of consciousess like a flame to illuminate the darkness of ignorance. Remember…the Sun is always shining whether in a shroud of cloud or illuminating the other side of the planet. Both Sun and Rain give birth to all the colours of the visible light spectrum.
Sagittarius is also affiliated with the planet Jupiter which is the largest in our Solar System. Due to its size, it has been associated with joy, opportunity, expansiveness, abundance and luck. It had the potential to be another Sun in our galaxy. It is also associated with faith. When the Sun is in Sagitarius, alot of people celebrate the Season of the Light Bringers of Faith in December. We are reminded of that faith when the light of the Full Moon in Sagitarius shines brightly in the early summer sky. Again, it will be followed by the longest days of the year. Time for summer fun! This is the Full Moon to take a leap of faith. So try to be optimystic and reach for the sky before you reach for the stars.
