Full Moon in Leo

Leonine

When the Sun is shining bright in Aquarius although we are  still cold in winter…the Moon is reflecting the light in Leo reminding us when we were still hot in summer…polar opposites of the Aquarius/Leo axis. Thus we continue the current lunation cycle that began 14 days ago at the New Moon. Where Aquarius proclaims freedom and love of community…Leo roars with need of attention and love of friends.
Leo rules the heart and is associated with the Sun. I like to think of this Full Moon as a night of  lighthearted  fun!  With the Sun (our core identity), Mercury (our communication) and Mars (our actions) in Aquarius with the Moon (our mood) in Leo it will be the eternal drama between the head and heart…the heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of…an act of love whether for humanity or vanity is still a form of love. This is the time to act and attract the change that you feel in the Heart Chakra and Solar Plexus (located just above the belly button).

All the world’s a stage and we all play our part in it. Leo wants to be in the spotlight and receive attention. Some of us will create drama in our lives in order to feel the recognition that we need. It is a fire sign that can make us somewhat restless and frisky. Romance can be extra hot on this fiery Full Moon which ignites the first signs of spring  fever. This Full Moon occurs a week prior the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. In fact, the month of February is named after the Ancient Roman Goddess Februa who presided over the fever and passion of Love…

Sun lights up the daytime…Moon lights up the night…Everybody’s got the fever…That is something you should know…Fever isn’t such a new scene…Fever started long ago…

It is no wonder that we celebrate the Festival of Romance with white, red and pink hearts on Valentine’s Day. Vali was a Norse archer god (Valiant, Valour)  while Cupid/Eros was the pansexual Roman/Greek deity of erotic love. Personally, I feel that this celebration of Love has been corrupted by the belief system that love is so conditional; that showering someone with flowers, candy, cards or dinner professes one’s undying love. Should love be exclusive to couples only? There are so many ways to show that you love someone without having to buy their affection. Remember, there are many degrees of love and it is not to be measured by the monetary value of a gift or extravagant dinner. What an honour it would be to have a loved one create a heartfelt dinner, and then for us to return the favour with a hot bubble bath and an erotic massage. There are a multitude of ways to say: I Love You!

Personally, it is more of a celebration of the One Heart that beats and loves us all unconditionally on this magickal and mysterious tour between birth and death. Love is the absence of fear, so be fearless. To have courage literally translates to have heart. It takes courage to risk being hurt when dealing with affairs of the heart. If you want to be loved, then love. Some people are too proud to risk wearing their heart upon their sleeve. They claim that they have been hurt and betrayed too many times and are unwilling to open their own heart chakra.  They would rather be fierce and allow that proverbial thorn in the lion’s paw to keep them wounded. Perhaps the thorn that pierces their wounded heart could be gently removed by an act of compassion and love. when the heart is full..the eyes overflow…

This is a great night to gather with lovers and friends. As I mentioned, Leo is a fire sign and can ignite this Full Moon night. This is no time to play mind games with ourselves or with others. We all can become a bit self-centered during this time, so play fair. It is the Moon to entertain and to be entertained by going to a concert, the theatre, a sports game or a night on the town dancing. Sitting around a fire with a group of friends would definitely warm up the night. Focus on being creative and having fun…and yes…even a heart to heart with a lover or friend can channel the restless energy.

The Sun in Aquarius (Freedom) is being mirrored by the Moon in Leo (Loyalty) and reminds me of the lion in the film Born Free. Don’t we all just want to be…free? Maybe even a bit wild? With the Sun in the sign of Humanity  and the Moon in Leo of taking heart…is what courage requires with seeds of compassion. In the jungle, no lion sleeps tonight. Remember, not everyone can be the King or Queen of the Jungle all of the time, so make room on your personal stage to allow others to shine in the moonlight too!

New Moon in Capricorn

The Sun and Moon are both conjunct in the sign Capricorn joined by Mercury (communication), Venus (attraction) and Pluto (transformation) meaning it is time to get serious. Some of us may feel very grounded and connected to earth energy or weighed down by gravity and perhaps feel more depressed during this time of the year, especially after indulging in the abundance and expansiveness of Sagittarius holy-day revelry. Saturn is associated with Capricorn (Dharma, Limitations, Authority, Governments and Time) it is the planet that says: get a grip! The rings around this planet are like a belt that needs to be tightened so we don’t wind up with our pants down…so to speak. This is the last planet visible to the naked eye and is symbolic of the naked truth of the self-imposed restrictions and limitations that can sometimes hold us back from pursuing and attaining our goals. In Ancient Rome, people celebrated the Saturnalia (our modern day New Years) and as the sands of the old calendar year pass through the hour glass of time, we begin to start anew by making resolutions or goals (think Discipline). It doesn’t neccessarily matter that we attain every goal set, as long as we strive to do our personal best.
Those who resolved to make personal commitments and agreements for their own benefit or simply to appease others on January 1st will probably notice the lack of discipline that prevents us from honouring the goals of our own personal best. This is due to the lunation cycle ending this year on January 11, 2013. The New Moon in Capricorn is getting down to business and being your own boss when it comes to the material realm.  It is the Capricorn nature that inhibits itself due to lack of confidence even though it is born to achieve. Where do we begin? By observing the house the New Moon will be transiting at the start of this cycle.

The New Moon is a time to initiate a change for the better and to establish some new boundaries in both our personal and professional lives. It is a good time to create a budget that will keep us within our means. It is easy to forget the abundance that some have while others seem to struggle. Too much of something can be a whole lot of nothing. Perhaps we can share the gifts that were presented to us (that we have no use for) to those who could really use it. Remember that we are meant to slow down during the cold, dark of winter. A time to gather indoors near the hearth (heart of home) to cook and to keep warm.

There are two kinds of Mountain Goats: one takes it time grazing on a plateau, while the other strives to climb that steep hill unable to keep still. Neither is right or wrong, so there is no need to get someone elses’ goat, only to wind up locking horns of indifference. Nor is it the time to be butting our heads into other people’s personal pilgrimage.
Sometimes there can be a need to be in total control of ourselves/others  possibly due to our perception of fear. The half human/half goat Pan may sound his horn causing us to panic. Take the time to slow down and prepare for the coming Spring. Oftentimes, grounded (Capricorn is an Earth Sign) and laid back people are considered lazy in our fast paced culture. It is easy to scapegoat others when we are unable to face our own mistakes or shortcomings. All those Capricorn Saviour deities seemed to agree on one concept: Be Still and you shall eventually find rest and peace. If you need to rush ahead of the herd, then at least be mindful of the pace of others who are unable to keep up with yours.

Although Capricorn energy can be slow yet steady on the pathway to success, sometimes the outlook can be pessimistic and inhibited. Responsibility is the ability to respond with practicality. Capricorns also can be prone to being despondent and yet their offbeat sense of humour and dry wit can remedy this. It is said that Capricorns are old when young, and young when old. The newborn child (puer) and the old man (senex) are symbols of the New Year replacing the Old Year. January is named after the ancient deity Janus who was two faced looking both to the past and the future.

So, whether you are an over-achiever, an under-achiever or simply an achiever, be kind to those you pass on the way up the hill because you may end up passing them again on the way down.
As the song goes: …ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough…we can see the vast horizon on the mountaintop or the majesty of the mountain from the valley below.
