New Moon in Scorpio

scorpio

November 18, 2017  3:42 AM  PST

The Sun and the Moon engage in their mo(o)nthly union with the New Moon in Scorpio. The energy seems to be most powerful in the hidden depths of our being. Sometimes referred to as the Dark Moon because it is not visible. The impact that it has upon our planet and our moods can vary due to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon conjunct. Birth Charts with even a few major planets in a water sign or 8th House tend to be more emotionally intense than usual.  If you have access to your Birth Chart you can see what area or House is being highlighted during this lunation cycle. The fact that the New Moon in Scorpio is about exploring ways in which to channel our Personal Power, to use it wisely with regard to our own Personal Transformation by revealing the hidden aspects of the power struggle that exists in all of us.

The Sun (Core), Moon (Mood), Venus (Love) and Jupiter (Faith) will all be transiting Scorpio this morning.

“It is easier to understand a child who is afraid of the dark than a man who is afraid of the light”

Why do we fear the dark? When we open the door to a room void of light it allows the light to pour in. Power contains both positive and negative charges. A battery requires both these charges. Energy implodes or explodes. There is an intensity of restlessness harnessed by the secrets of the universe at this time.  The media reports the news of death and destruction.  The ending of political power in some parts of the world and the rising of new regimes elsewhere. Technology continues to seek and probe the outer limits. NASA just discovered water (hydrogen and oxygen) in the form of ice and steam in a dark crater of  the Moon…which scientists have said was merely a dead rock orbiting the Earth.

In the Northern Hemisphere it is the Season of Dying…in the Celtic tradition Samhain marks the time of Winter. The Wheel of the Seasons bring change. The Earth is consuming what  she gave birth to in the Spring taking it back into her womb to be transmuted and reborn again in Spring. All the decay is returning to the soil feeding the creatures that exist in a cold, dark and mysterious place.  Imagine what is going on beneath the surface feeding the deep roots of plants and trees that seek the light of the Sun to be reborn into beautiful blossoms. As the nights grow longer, the temperatures decline and some of us begin to feel more isolated, remaining indoors where it is warm and cozy. We enter into the Sacred Silence. Scorpio is named after the scorpion who has the ability to sting itself again and again. I know many Scorpio types with a tough veneer able to be protective of their intense emotions unless provoked by an outsider who will cause their venom to surface with an emotional sting like the scorpion. Be willing to peer beyond the veneer and respect what truth may be hidden there.

The Snake is also associated with Scorpio (Transformation/Rebirth) due to the ability to shed its old skin and re-emerge anew. The Serpent at the base of the spine known as Kundalini Energy can be awakened through certain Tantric Sexual Practices. Scorpio rules the Sexual Energy and Reproductive Organs. Sexual Energy is very powerful and must be respected and honored in every individual. Just as the Sun and Moon are in symbolic union during this phase, we may feel the urge to connect with another on a deeply sexual level. Sharing sexual energy with another being can be a very intense and liberating expression without depleting it for purely selfish reasons. It isn’t meant to be about conquest but more about inquest into the intimacy (into-me-see) between ourselves and others. Personally, I feel that we are all Spiritual/Sensual/Sexual Beings and that we need to honor those levels of expression with integrity. After all,  it is one of the key ingredients in the elixir of Love. The Power of Love rather than the Love of Power.

“hurt me with the truth, don’t comfort me with a lie”

Secrecy is another aspect to Scorpio and our willingness to become Soul Detectives bringing the flashlight into the dark to address the more negative side to our being. We need to be shining that bright light into our own eyes and interrogating ourselves and to see with our inner eyes the disguise that we don’t always need to wear. If we face our own fear we are able to bring it into the light and own it rather than projecting it onto others. So many myths have been written about the Scorpio archetypes and have been woven into stories of unsolved mysteries and crimes. Alas, like the Phoenix rises from its own ashes, we also can arise from the ashes of our own ignorance and fear. Secrets seem to breed the very thing that we attempt to hide. Again, taking back our power also means being responsible for our dark side rather than projecting it  onto others. Even though we may not always see the writing on the wall of our subconscious, like the Dark Moon that is not visible but we know it is there like the answers to our own mystery. It is not about power over others but power over ourselves. There is an overload of intensity in the arena of global politics that is causing undue stress upon the environment and the inhabitants of the Earth. The veil of ignorance is being lifted as more and more people are looking through a magnifying glass that is illustrating the power struggle between the bi-polar politics specifically in the US where they are preparing to elect a new president as they do every four years when the Sun is in Scorpio. Prior to the discovery of Pluto and atomic energy in the early 1930’s, the planet Mars (War) ruled Scorpio. Mars also represents action and this can be seen in the many efforts of citizens around the globe to assert their individual and collective rights that are being denied due to so-called globalization by military regimes that are caught between the sense and nonsense that is being projected by the media. This is indeed a challenging time for those who are being betrayed by their own governments that are perpetuating the divide and conquer tactic such as: Pro Gun ~ Anti Gun, Pro Life Anti Abortion, thereby setting up the game of protagonist vs antagonist which divides us individually and collectively.

It is a great Lunation Cycle to seek out solutions to help us transform and heal ourselves and each other. We journey together upon the path of Life between Birth and Death. To Be Here Now requires a surrendering of desire to inspire us. I think of the Tao and the Sacred Dance of the Light and the Dark. Take a good look into the mirror and ask some profound and meaningful questions that you truthfully seek to answer. What ever you do, dare to be yourself because this is the time to look beyond the veil.

If we give her back her diamond…she will offer up her pearl… ~Dead Can Dance

Full Moon in Taurus

November 3, 2017  10:22 PM   PST
This is the season of storms in many regions. Natural disasters seem to have a greater magnitude near the full moon.  Events like these often bring us closer to the true value and meaning of our lives with the full moon in Taurus. Do we feel safe and secure? With so many modern devices it is no wonder that we are left to our own devices…left alone. In this accelerated age of a technological edge it seems that more people are discovering that these very tools that were marketed to make our lives more convenient and safe…now seem to be driving us crazy. Bottom line is : Too much information…too fast!
The Sun (our core/motivation) is still in Scorpio (our mystery/power) which enhances the effect of this Full Moon in Taurus (our security/value). We are a midst the season of incipient decline…of change and decay with the many transformations that are coloring not only world politics… but also the politics of personal power that we engage in with others and with ourselves. We are constantly being convinced that life is a struggle rather than a journey into the ever unfolding mystery of life, death and beyond. We are told that we can not have peace without war. During the Sign of Scorpio we remember those who fought for peace and those who have passed away. Many customs are celebrated around the world to honor the memory of our ancestors.
To conquer others is to have power, to conquer one’s self is to know the way ~ Lao Tzu

The Full Moon in Taurus is all about our sense of security on all levels. It is the full-fillment of living in the material or matter-real world. Moon is associated with Mother and how she was able to be nurturing or not in our sense of value, meaning and security. It is not a time to be charging after something like a raging bull and stubbornly clinging to that which we cannot possess (often seen in as the scorpion attached to the balls of the bull).  Rather, it is time to take the Bull by the horns and get real with ourselves and each other. We all need the comfort and support of friends, family and lovers. This is a great opportunity to gather and remember the many blessings that continue to come to us in the most surprising of gifts. We are apt to feel more sensual during this Moon…as its gravitational pull is so strong bringing us down to earth and grounding us…after the Moon in Aries (restlessness/challenge/action/passion/anger/conflict) transit the last few days.

Too often we find ourselves trying to POSSESS that which is not truly ours and living with a false sense of security. Money does not create emotional security. Love does not create financial security (although partnership can). Like the many gardeners that love to get their hands dirty…cultivating the soil of their gardens, we can also unearth some of the misconceptions that have been planted in our own Secret Garden.  Has it been fertilized with a lot of bullshit that stifles our personal growth?
The more dirt you throw, the more ground you lose ~ Texan Proverb

Why is it that some people are able to make us feel secure, while others make us feel insecure? I believe it is all about investment. Who and what do we invest in? Are we giving and receiving our fair share? Do we own our possessions or do our possessions own us? Do we merely borrow our existence or do we own it? When we feel we are not being respected or honored for our efforts, we may become insecure. It is about Personal Power experienced by the individual.

Think about our earth’s resources and how insufficiently they are being distributed. There are enough natural resources to feed, shelter and clothe those who live in poverty. We all need to grab the bull by the horns and harness its power and connection to Mother Earth.

If we give her back her diamond, she will offer up her pearl. ~Dead Can Dance

Superficially, we are defined by what we do rather than who we are. We enter this world or realm of the senses with nothing material other than our body temple infused with soul and we depart from mundane realm with nothing tangible. Yet we are conditioned by constant marketing schemes to convince us to purchase things that we do not necessarily need; or eventually that we no longer want when they become a useless burden. Again, it is the attachment to the sentiment, rather than the object itself that the Taurus type wants to cling to. After all, eventually you will be thrown off by the bull, both literally and figuratively. The Full Moon in Taurus can also affect our sexuality as well as our sensuality. Venus ruled Taurus wants to love and experience beauty in its many manifestations. As the saying goes: if you want to be loved, then offer love. A romantic time with a loved one exchanging sensual touch and healing massage would be beneficial.

During the next two weeks prior to the next New Moon as the moon wanes or decreases in light would be a great opportunity to let go of the things that no longer serve any value or meaning in our quest for purpose. A friend just overcame her fear of releasing the many objects that encumbered her with the notion that she would need them to feel secure both in her present and future. Rather than merely discarding items…like my friend, we could donate them to a charity or a women’s shelter which my friend chose to do. It is also what nature is doing in the Northern Hemisphere as the trees let go of their fruit and leaves…as they fall unto the ground to be returned to the earth…what is not consumed feeds the soil and roots in preparation for the coming spring after their winter slumber…perpetuating the perpetual cycle of the seasons…in the perpetual dance of the Sun and Moon.

Taurus is is named after the Minotaur ( a Greek word meaning Bull of Minos). There is a Greek myth of the Labyrinth and the White Bull of King Minos of Crete. In modern times, the Labyrinth is still used as a meditative and symbolic pathway. The Full Moon draws our energy outward like the Bull at the center of the labyrinth journeys outward as it illuminates the darkness. We can appreciate the darker side of the nature of things in ourselves and in others.
Do you want to be like a Bull in a china shop destroying things by being mindless?  Or more like Ferdinand the Bull, who chose not to fight but instead took the time to smell the beautiful roses of  love.

New Moon in Libra

4 R

October 19, 2017  12:11 pm   PDT

… there is a universal justice ~ and the eyes of truth are always watching…

The Sun (Core) and the Moon (Mood) merge in the Air Sign Libra seeking balance and harmony with self and with others. Venus (Attraction) is also in Libra and rules this Air Sign. This is also the New Moon of the Sacred Union between any inharmonious energy dynamics. Each of us are faced with moments in which we need to assess opposing forces in our lives and to weigh them upon the scales of Balance and Justice. Try to remove the blindfold of Injustice and see that everything is beautiful in its own way and that includes each and everyone of us. The mood seems to be one of fluctuation…weighing the pros and cons in the search for liberty, justice, peace and harmony. In certain parts of the world the scales remain unfairly imbalanced. Social injustice is being addressed on many issues…and seems to come round again when the sun and moon are conjunct in Libra …including Libra’s realm of partnerships, equality, equity, union and attraction.

Most people are familiar with the Law of Attraction but seem to negate the Law of Repulsion. When we accept that certain energy (even the energy within each of us) is sometimes repelling in order to achieve harmony and to accept its unique way. Positive and Negative are both equal and necessary charges and without them we simply can not recharge our batteries. We need to empty so that we may fill. Good/Evil, Happy/Sad, Light/Dark, Sparse/Dense, Yin/Yang, Head/Heart are on the axis of opposites. Movement is ebb and flow. If the scales were completely still, they would in essence become stagnant, boring and without motion.

if there are no ups and downs in life…you’re dead.

Libra marks the first day of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. As the cool weather draws near and the nights grow longer, many people want to nest with a companion. Venus (Aphrodite) the Goddess of love is blowing a kiss with thought and feeling about merging with Other. All in not fair in love and war…or so it goes. It is the perfect New Moon to deal with relationship issues on all levels, including the relationship that we experience with ourselves. Be willing to risk honesty when weighing our own heart with the feather of our own truth. Be fair when someone professes a truth that you are not in agreement with.  Each may be a truth according to their own experience and viewpoint. If we need to refine any agreements in our intimate relations, then now is the moment to initiate them.

sun lights up the daytime, moon lights up the night

A ritual of love and beauty can be performed in any romantic setting: A fire with lots of candles or ambient lighting with sensual adornments like a red rose of love or a white lily of eros. Of course, water cleanses…why not enjoy a luxurious bubble bath infused with the most delicious essential oils like lavender, orange and vanilla or better yet rose oil from the rose flower associated with Venus? Treat your self to something of beauty. Remember to look beyond the Vanity Mirror of superficial beauty and look at the many beautiful mirrors of our loved ones who also reflect our inner beauty.

We all desire to be valued and loved. Are there any friends or family that you need to express your love and appreciation to?  Perhaps there has been an injustice that needs to be addressed. Can we meet upon a common ground of acceptance and not take rejection to heart? Indeed this Lunation Cycle begins with decision making. If we are the Universe’s way of knowing itself, then Peace and Harmony truly begins with each and everyone one of us.

Full Moon in Aries

images-1

October  5, 2017 11:40 AM  PDT

Welcome to the first full moon of Autumn…in Aries! Time to turn up the heat in the Northern Hemisphere.

Flaming colours ignited by the Sun splashing yellow, orange and red on the tree leaves.
Ares was the Greek God of War (the opposite of his sister Aphrodite: Greek Goddess of Love and Peace) and was worshiped by Warlords in Ancient Greece. In Rome, he was known as the God Mars who gives the name to the month of March. The martial arts are ruled by this sign. In fact, Ares is still worshiped today in an archetypal way. Billions of dollars are invested in warfare and the exploration of space. It seems ironic that we are unable to explore Venus the symbolic planet of love and peace which is closer to the Sun. Instead, we probe the Red Planet that is an archetypal link with Ares. We seem obsessed with Martians and other aliens in the realm of science and fantasy. Even if rational science dictates that it is not plausible to explore a planet like Venus, could we not, at the very least, explore the planet of Love symbolically within our own inner verse as opposed to the outer verse? It is interesting that our planet Earth exists between two planets that represent War and Peace, as well as being the symbols for Male and Female. Is the truth out there? Or is it in here, inside each and every one of us? Truth is such a personal belief system that seems to always be changing. Life is about transformation in so many ways.

Change your perception and you change your world…your personal world…how you perceive it.

Life can be a test and Aries energy loves a good challenge! Rather than competing with others, we could confront our own Ego by transforming “me” into “we”. Nothing is completely independent everything is inter-dependent. Co-dependent has become a very negative catch word. There is so much needless conflict in our world. If we continue to feed only our greed then we sow another angry seed. Do we multiply only to divide? We are in the Age of Aquarius, not the Age of Aries, and yet we live in a world that has become more and more action oriented. Think of how time seems to have accelerated by the speed of technology. A world obsessed by action and trying to be first at everything. Aries is the first Sign of the Astrological Wheel. How can everything be Number One at the same time? All is One relates to our spiritual connection to everyone and everything.

The universe is Sacred Geometry; therefore, all numbers are relevant and equally important. To claim that there is only one true God (my God versus your God)…well, we all know how wars are started. It has been said that God is too ominous for just one religion. Uranus is also in Aries which affects society as a whole…there is a restless energy brewing that cries out for reformation and revolution due to the many injustices in our world today. Aries sometimes needs to conquer…and strategy is one of the ways it divides people through the Ego…like dividing a military army so that it can create conflict within the individual and others…fueling an “us” vs. “them” attitude. If we allow our Egos to always be right…we may win the battle…but lose the war.

The Ram is the animal totem of the sign Aries. A headstrong creature can butt into personal affairs of others. Yet, inside every ram lies a gentle lamb. The aggressive nature of an Aries Sun/Moon/Rising Sign can be tempered by the other signs and there placements in the Astrological Chart. Although Aries energy can be fiery, direct or aggressive in no way implies that all Aries are ruthless and constantly seeking to win a battle. Aries energy can initiate positive action. Fire is a very useful and necessary element as long as it is not implosive or explosive (a rocket scientist would probably argue my point, rightfully so). Aries rules the head and being a fire sign can initiate headaches, inflammation, fever and other irritations.

Athena was the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and a sister of Ares. She was born with a spear and shield in hand and unlike her bother who was too impulsive, she invoked the wisdom of the Owl being wise and less rash in her actions. Athena represents the anima of her Brother Ares’ animus. It is said that Ares and Aphrodite bore the twins, Phobos “panic” and Deimos “fear” which together can create conflict. Fear is the absence of love. Both serve a purpose to be explored and understood within each and everyone one of us. Owning our personal inner conflict is winning half the battle. To forge ahead with positive action is our best weapon. As the Pilgrim of Peace said: “If someone were to kill me, they would only be killing my body and not my soul; if I kill another, I destroy my soul”.

Aries is also symbolic of the Inner Child. The God Ares was the first born son of Zeus who always sought the love and approval of his father. I believe that a lot of tyrants are simply wounded children seeking the love and approval of an Almighty Father, their own father, the institutional father or their own personal God. Adults are merely children in grown up bodies and we need to rediscover the child in each of us so that we can heal. It is time to remove the superficial band aid, to allow our wounds to truly heal in the fresh air and light of day. It is said in several spiritual traditions that we are to be innocent as children to enter into Heaven, Nirvana, Paradise or state of Bliss.

New Moon in Virgo

Virgo Moon

September 19, 2017  10:29 PM  PDT

The New Moon can be experienced as a journey toward the within…to the center of our being. The New Moon in Virgo is a time to reap within what has been sown without.  It is the time when we begin to harvest that which brings us back to earth during the last weeks of summer.  Many people return to work, school or some form of service. Sun (Motivation), Moon (Mood), Mercury (Communication) Venus (Attraction) and Mars (Action) are all conjunct in Virgo and referred to a Stellium of 4 or more planets/orbs including the illuminary (Sun and Moon) in the same sign.…at core we feel the need to strive…to thrive…and stay alive. “What can I do? How can I repair? How do I make it better? Are those really butterflies in my tummy?”
Too much analysis can lead to paralysis…
Being a Virgo, I completely concur with the above quote, because Virgo is the Sign of the Analyst.  Anyone with Virgo prominent in their birth chart (Sun/ Moon/Rising or a stellium of orbs/planets in the 6th House) can be a stickler to detail. Too much detail can derail us from our beingness.  It is the Sign of the Perfectionist, and it can be difficult to put away the voice of the Inner Critic that resides in us all.
Where there is Light…there is Shadow…
So the Sun in Virgo through excessive worry and needing to be of service can sometimes leave the Perfectionist personality in the Dark and ignore any complex matter by falling into the abyss of martyrdom. The Inner Critic is simply a recording of the Outer Critic…which is the voice of others who have inundated us with the projection of their own shadow and in the process their criticism has become destructive to our self-esteem and confidence…which can further demise and victimize poor Virgo.   People born with the Moon in Virgo tend to be quite critical of their self and others; as well as being shy and sometimes emotionally aloof because they need to know the facts of the matter to ensure that it is perfect…before they can open the gate to their Secret Garden.  By comparing, judging and needing to know why, we steer away from the center of our being.  Of course we require these cognitive tools at times because Virgo wants to be of service, to work and is health focused…sometimes obsessed.  Virgo is also associated with worry which can lead to problems in the body’s nervous system, stomach and intestines where we digest and process not only our food but also our gut instinct.
In fact, the Medical Health Care Profession uses the symbol of Mercury’s Winged Staff Caduceus as their emblem. The two snakes intertwine like the double helix of DNA. As mentioned, Virgo is health oriented and prompts us to focus upon our personal health issues and to commit ourselves to a healthier lifestyle.  It can be a time to be supportive of the health of others, in particular the caregivers in our lives.  A lot of Virgo energy is channeled through the many health care service providers who are often overworked and unappreciated.  Our Health Care System seems to be inundated with problems and lacking the resources that we are in dire need of.  That is why it is important to heed to the words: Physician Heal Thyself.  We need to explore ways in which we can heal ourselves in Body, Mind and Spirit.  There are many healers in this world, but we are our best healer in the long run.  I am grateful that there are those who can set broken bones, stitch wounds and save lives.  However, I think about the saying: Broken bones mend faster than broken spirits.  We need to integrate both Allopathic and Alternative Health Practices. It can be very frustrating when one side dismisses the benefits of the other.
Without a healthy planet we cannot expect to be healthy ourselves.  I have discovered that when I help to heal others I am also helping to heal myself. Divine Servitude is in a sense the calling that allows Virgo (associated with the Virgin or unmarried) to harvest the fruits of its labours and to assist others in a time of solace.  Many Virgo types enter into deep seclusion to contemplate the pain and suffering of others that they too feel. Being of service is a word that also translates the latin word servus which means slave. Virgo loves to offer assistance on its own terms…oftentimes volunteering without wage but will not respond well to arrogant demands that treat them as a slave.  It is truly about integrity and needing to be humble about being served as well as being of service.
Ceres was the ancient Roman Goddess of Agriculture and harvest of the grain.  She is incorporated into the Virgo symbol of a woman holding a sheath of wheat.  The word cereal is derived from her name.  The glyph of the scythe that cuts away the barley is similar to the symbol of the question mark that cuts away to an answer after a period of analysis. Give us this day our daily bread so that we may share it with others. Just some food for thought or barley soup for the soul. Remember Health is True Wealth.
Worry is like praying for something you don’t want
Virgo is ruled by Mercury like its astro cousin Gemini. Virgo can be somewhat OCD when left alone or unexpectedly bombarded by outside energies. It is interesting that there is much to be concerned about in our world these days. Whenever there are catastrophic events occurring around the world you will notice many people crying doomsday or the end of the world. It is important to remember that many storms and earthquakes occur at a greater magnitude near both the New and Full Moons. There are some who speculate that this current alignment of planets and illuminares (sun and moon) in Virgo is a prediction of the book of Revelations. However, they are interpreting the Moon and planets as twelve stars upon the head of Virgo the Virgin, but they are not stars (even ancient astrologers knew this viewing the heavens with naked eyes and noting the orbit of the planets in our solar system against the constellation). The Sun is the only star in our solar system and the number 12 is a solar number. Until the invention of the telescope our solar system  was viewed by the naked eye of astronomers who named the visible planets after the deities of their culture. The Sun a star and seven planets/orbs Mercury, Venus, Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn from Earth perspective. They were also the names of the seven days of the week.
Sunday ~ Sun
Monday ~ Moon
Tuesday ~ Mars (mardi)
Wednesday ~ Mercury (Woden)
Thursday ~ Jupiter (Thor)
Friday ~ Venus (venerdi)
Saturday ~ Saturn

Astrology

Before the invention of the telescope the Solar System harboured only the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn (as well as the stars) to the naked eye. Saturday which is named after Saturn is the last day of the week. The Sun was considered a Solar Deity or God of Light that was worshiped by different cultures around the globe. Saturn was considered the outer limit of the Solar System and was associated with endings and the God of Darkness. Many ancient cultures created their myths around these seven orbs that are still prevalent today. Even in modern times, certain people suspect the planet Saturn, with its rings to be associated with a lot of negative stereotypes, such as misfortune, since it is associated with limitation, constraint, boundaries and even Satan (the archetypal scapegoat of Capricorn).Saturn is associated with Capricorn which begins around December 21st which is the longest and darkest night of the year, as well as the first day of Winter. It was a time when the Ancient Romans celebrated the Saturnalia (modern day New Year’s festivities) with its endings and beginnings. Six months later, we experience the opposite, with the Sun transiting into Cancer around June 21st, which marks the longest and brightest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere). The Sun is in Cancer (Mother, Nurture,Compassion, Home) and being a Water Sign heralds in the season of Summer when people come out of their own protective shells to search for seashells, crabs and many other creatures (yes, including people) as they retreat to the beach. The water entices us to cool down, nurture and refresh our bodies. On the other side of the Earth, the Moon is Full in the Sign of Capricorn (an Earth sign). Pluto (Depth and Transformation) is also currently in Capricorn.

The Full Moon in Capricorn can be a capricious one at that. It is the Full Moon that can reveal our serious side. We may want to be in control. We will want to appear calm and cool. Secretly, we feel the need to control others (rules, regulations and authority) which can expend a lot of our valuable energy. We need to focus upon control of our own actions rather than accusing others of having negative energy or bad karma. The inner rebel may very well want to howl beneath this Full Moon and break through those boundaries and limitations set by others. Again, this is the time we need to reflect upon our own path and learn to take responsibility for our own actions. We can choose to respond (take responsibility) or react irresponsibly to the obstacles that appear to be in our way.

The Goat has long been associated with Capricorn. The uphill climb, on a sometimes steep and rugged hill, can be a thrill of a lifetime. Some of us are reluctant to take that extra step. Since Capricorn is also linked with Career, some of us will clash head on with our boss or the bossy-ness of others. No one likes to be told what to do, so be mindful when requesting assistance in any undertaking. Remember, when you ask you may not always receive, so be respectful of other peoples’ boundaries also.

Capricorn (an Earth Sign) wants to create structure and support in the traditional sense. Too much water will turn the ground into mud. When we throw mud we lose ground. A lot of persons with Capricorn Sun, Moon, Rising or orbs prominent in this sign, can feel swamped and tend to be rigid when it comes to their emotions. They become so focused on their reputation and social status that they fear rejection to the point of being wound up so tight when it comes to their feelings. Lack of healthy emotional release can manifest in disease of the bones in particular. Remember, repression leads to depression. Yet, the beautiful lotus flower is born out of the deep dark and murky mud.

Time is what keeps everything from happening at once.

Capricorn is the Teacher. A wise teacher will honour both the student and the teacher in others. Saturn is also associated with old age and wisdom. We all have our lessons to learn. Learn to heed to the teachings of your own experience. We go to school and are taught a plethora of structured, limited and old ways of education, which we begin to unlearn as we grow older.

Life experience is the greatest teacher, it gives us the test first, and then, we learn the lesson.

It is said that Time is the greatest healer. Saturn is the Task Maker and our sense of Duty currently in the sign of higher learning and foreign culture but more importantly, our faith. Many people are experiencing a test in their faith with all the negative and toxic media reports that are a drop in a vast ocean of human experience and perception of reality.  Perhaps, we willingly allow time to limit our freedom. We all face the reality of time running out. Time is a paradox: a technical gadget that we shackle around our wrists. I once wrote: Time is two hands on a clock, reaching out to strangle me (that’s my Capricorn Moon talking). There is Universal Time, Earth Time and Human Time (we all have our own circadian or internal clock). So, take the time to stretch up when you reach for the stars.

Live by the Sun,

Love by the Moon.

New Moon in Cancer

Cancer

Artist: Josephine Wall

The Moon is hiding within the Light of the Sun…a holographic lover in the sky!  The New Moon in Cancer is the Moody Moon…and is all about feeling! It can be like a day at the beach with loved ones.  It can be like a crab hiding beneath a rock needing its space.  Cancer the Crab can be very sensitive and can get a little crabby if the heat is on too strong.  Remember that the shell of a crab is tough on the outside but very soft on the inside.  Being a Water Sign, we can easily be washed away by the tide of strong emotion .  Moon and Mood are synonymous and come and go like the tides.  Sometimes we can feel dark and empty like the New Moon…Sometimes we can feel light and fulfilled like the Full Moon.  Our mood changes; just as the moon changes during her 29.5 day cycle, sometimes appearing in the sky during the day but somewhat more visible at night.   Cancer is ruled by the Moon. This round the Sun (Motivation) and Moon (Mood) are accompanied by the planets Mercury (Communication) and Mars (Action) creating what is referred to by astrologers as a stellium of orbs in the same Sign. This enhances the mood of Cancer’s watery sensitivity. When the Sun is in Cancer it marks the beginning of Summer…a time when families gather and spend more time together during the holidays. Many people return to their homes and roots of origin. It can be a wonderful time but eventually, like the crab, people will sidestep to seek some personal space. The coming Full Moon in Capricorn in about two weeks will be about boundaries.

It is the first New Moon of Summer, so a lot of people will be on vacation retreating near the water, to keep cool from the heat of the Sun.  Some of us will be hanging at the beach, swimming in a lake, fishing on a river or meditating by a waterfall. Others will be singing in the shower or crying in a pillow.  We all want to be nurtured and loved, even when we deny that need.  Cancer is associated with the Mother, Family, Home, Hearth, Cooking, Nurturing, and Compassion.  It draws our attention to our origins.  Some of us have lost our mothers and seek her in others.  Other people need to cut the apron string from an overprotective mother, who tenaciously clings on like a crab, and move on with their own life.
I feel that we are all part of the Great Mother and belong to the World Tree, not only our Family Tree.  There have been many occasions when I did not have the arms of a mother to nurture and protect me.  Instead, I have found solace in Mother Earth who has held and comforted me, when no one else could or would.  She listens without judgment, holding me for as long as I need.  She feeds me and nourishes me.  She wipes away my tears with a gentle breeze and cleanses me with her tears of rain.  She gently cradles me in the water adorned with sunlight sparkling like a thousand diamonds dancing upon the sea. The pearl is found in the shell of certain oysters and is also a symbol of the Moon…our own pearl of wisdom can be hidden beneath a veneer of fear and for many Moon children (Cancer) are very strong protectors of the home and family. Maternal Instinct is highly sensitive in this sign.
The Archetypal Great Mother flows through everyone if they are open to the experience. Many people born with two or more orbs in the Sign Cancer or four or more planets in the same House are often Nurses and Care Givers in a variety of ways.  Health Spas, Healing Retreats, Alternative Health Care and Hospices, all offering healing touch with aromatic herbs and remedies.  Nature is a vital part of the Healing Arts.  Those who truly care can have such a miraculous impact in the healing process of others.  We all need to nurture and to be nurtured.  Just watching the adoration of a baby’s eyes for its mother can bring tears to my own. Lovingkindness and Compassion for each other needs to be tended to like a delicate plant requires attention and nurturing.
During this lunation cycle some of us will be able to sense the thoughts and feelings of others.  It is a time to be mindful of other people’s space, whether it is their home or their privacy.  Home is where the heart is…Om is where the heart is…not everyone is at home in their own body or able to express their true feelings.  Our relationships can mirror the type of connection we have with our selves and the parent that nurtured us the most, which could be either a mother or father.  If we try to trap the crab it will become defensive and move to a hiding place.  It would be foolish to build a castle on quicksand so why attempt to construct a relationship without a solid foundation?
When the heart is full, the eyes overflow
…and as we taste our salty tears may we once again be reminded that we are part of the Great Cosmic Sea. Did you know that the amount of salt in our bodiy fluids is the same as in the sea water. Be sensitive to the needs of others and we will soon forget our own worries. Personally, I feel much better after an opportunity to be able to spend time watching a beautiful sunset in the warmth of summer. Giving thanks for another day…the slumber that comes at night and the promise of a new day.  Live by the sun…Love by the moon.
Take the time to be near or in the water…it can take you back to a time when your body was floating in the womb of mother.  Prepare some nourishing food and reach the beach with friends and loved ones.  Allow yourself to feel all of the elements; as you rest upon the sand of the earth, in the cool ocean of water, breathing in the fresh air, beneath the fire of the sun.  Become one with all that is and in that awesome moment, allow the power of loving kindness and compassion to flow through you.  Again, nurture yourself and nurture others.  Take a vacation from the attachment of consensus reality and just be…or just beach.

Love by the Moon

The Sun is in Gemini and the Moon is Full in Sagittarius. This combo says: Think Big! It seems as though everything in nature is buzzing with communication, while the days are significantly longer and warmer when we begin making plans for the summer. This is the Full Moon of Spontaneity! We need to get out of our heads and to expand our conscious awareness. Our thoughts can be direct and focused upon the goals that we aspire to achieve. What or who gets in the way of what our heart truly desires? Rather than act upon impulse…we could tap into the pulse of the One Heart. Jupiter (although retrograde) will aspire many thoughts to aim high for our personal best…depending upon whether we reach for the sky or the stars. It is all about faith…in some cases blind faith. With Saturn (Authority) in Sagittarius it will feel like a fluctuation sometimes with a rubber band effect when people push boundaries with over enthusiastic behavior without heeding to others’ limitations. It is also the Great Test of Faith. Both Jupiter and Saturn are retrograde causing a slow down slippery ahead mindset with so many setbacks that appear to be moving backward rather than forward. Jupiter is expansion and Saturn is restriction. This is very evident in the test of faith and religious intolerance that seems to be relinquishing power and losing the confidence of the people. There is a clash of energy with this placement causing a tug of war causing needless conflict in our own moral dilemma. This is being demonstrated by the recent challenges of free speech and religious freedom with the constraint of Saturn that is associated with restrictions, boundaries, governments and patriarchal institutions.

No matter our differences; we all look at the same sun and moon…

There is a wonderful Greek myth about Hercules and his mentor Chiron.  Chiron was the Wise (Sage) Centaur (half-human/half-animal) who was a Great Teacher and Healer. Teaching, post education and higher learning are all associated with Sagittarius. One day, Hercules went to seek the counsel of his Wise Teacher, where upon his arrival, he was met by a group of Centaurs that were drinking wine. In the short version of this myth, Hercules became impatient and bored due to his Teacher being absent and began to also drink some wine after refusing several offers. Later, when he was intoxicated, Hercules could hear the sound of hooves stomping upon the ground and became nervous. Lacking focus, Hercules reached for the arrows in his quiver and began to shoot aimlessly, until one of the arrows found his friend and teacher, Chiron, wounding him in his leg.  Chiron forgave Hercules for his short sighted error. Thus, Chiron came to be known as the Wounded Healer. Here was a test of one’s faith.  Full Moons tend to draw out our energy escalating into crisis and even violence when people push the limit…and some of us will want to overindulge in food and drink, but we must be careful not to hurt others while in an inebriated state. Otherwise, we may not be wise in our buoyancy and create needless crisis.

Indeed, this is the Full Moon to enjoy a social gathering in the outdoors with friends, family and colleagues. Sitting around a warm fire can imbue many philosophic conversations. Avoid too much gossip and remember; where one finger is pointing, three are pointing back. We all have our tales to tell, try to focus upon the stories that inspire. This is a fire moon that can raise the light of consciousness like a flame to illuminate the darkness of ignorance.  Remember…the Sun is always shining whether in a shroud of cloud or illuminating the other side of the planet. Both Sun and Rain give birth to all the colors of the visible light spectrum.

Sagittarius is also affiliated with the planet Jupiter which is the largest in our Solar System. Due to its size, it has been associated with joy, opportunity, expansiveness, abundance and luck. It had the potential to be another Sun in our galaxy. It is also associated with faith. When the Sun is in Sagittarius, a lot of people celebrate the Season of the Light Bringers of Faith in December. We are reminded of that faith when the light of the Full Moon in Sagittarius shines brightly in the early summer sky. Again, it will be followed by the longest days of the year. Time for summer fun! This is the Full Moon to take a leap of faith. So try to be optimystic and reach for the sky before you reach for the stars.

New Moon in Gemini

gemini-sisters

May 25, 2017   12:44 pm  PDT

The Sun and the Moon are currently in the Sign of the Twins: Gemini. Cogito Ergo Sum translates: “I think, therefore I am”,  which was coined by the French philosopher Renee Descartes. Gemini, being an Air Sign, is a Creative Thinker or Genius. The New Moon is a great time to continue the journey toward the within. Our thoughts may turn inward, only to move outward, as we will want to communicate with others. A lot of Gemini types appear to have their head in the attic of rationality. However, it is important for Gemini to allow their feelings to be experienced in the heart, rather than only the head.

The heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of ~Blaise Pascal.

Gemini which will lend to the duality theme during the coming weeks can bring about a fluctuation of moods as we navigate our way through the pillars of Gemini between sense and nonsense we may continue to feel divided between what we think and how we feel. The Sins of the Father become the Compassion of the Mother. The House that the New Moon transits can reveal what areas in our lives need attention at this time. Mars (Action) is also challenging Mercury in the sign it governs Gemini…and in the realm of action and reaction there may be conflict but also the opportunity to speak from the heart. Learning to integrate any opposing energies can be a motion such as the martial arts that transcends the great divide.

The greatest distance between two people is miscommunication.

Gemini is the social butterfly that loves to flutter around and experience all of the variety of flowers in bloom. Sometimes the Social Gemini Moon can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children’s game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person’s ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context. Be mindful before speaking. In other words, put your mouth in gear before you put it into action (unless there is room in it for your foot).Gemini will spy with their logical eye to make sense of the nonsense. They are usually rather witty and interesting people. They tend to stick their finger in every pie like Georgie Porgie and can be mischievous like Curious George…although they can be fun to monkey around with. Sometimes when Geminis’ curiosity is aroused they can go bananas by attempting to understand everything new under the Sun.

What the caterpillar calls death, the butterfly calls life.

Nervousness and worry are common traits of Gemini. Although they are not so prone to worry like their astro-cousins Virgo which is also associated with Mercury. Gemini rules the eyes and nervous system where an underlying restlessness is common. They tend to see the glass as either half full or half empty. Other peoples’ emotions can be difficult for Gemini types to handle. They have a way with words riddled with puns and clever wit. Geminis have no time for Taurus bullshit. They can fluctuate between being childlike and childish.

Media has become overloaded and our minds downloaded with a lot of negativity being reported in the news. There is just too much information at our disposal. We are being left to our own devices and experiencing reality through a digital world and cyberspace. This is a great time to turn off the TV/Cell Phone/Computer and tune in to the transmission of the planet and all our relations on an organic level. We are the center of our universe. Everything we think and do has an impact upon ourselves and our immediate surroundings. If we are restless and require distraction, then perhaps we could learn to meditate while practicing deep breathing to calm the nervous system. Gemini is associated with the lungs and nervous system. Think of ways to create Positive Action, then breathe life into it. Yes, the universe exists with both positive and negative energy. We need to bring any opposing forces together through integration and accord.

A world in black and white, hath no color.

The Light Spectrum refuses no color. How would we know day without night? Get outside and bear witness to the beauty that nature paints for us in every moment. As Albert Einstein said: Imagination is far greater than knowledge. Dare to be different. When you change your perception, you transform your world. Remember to respect that other people’s Way may differ from your own. Same planet, different worlds.

There are many myths about Mercury/Hermes, the Ancient Messenger God, who was also known as the Patron of both Merchants, Great Thinkers and Thieves, as well as surfers and skateboarders in modern time. Imagine the mind of Leonardo Da Vinci observing the winged birds and igniting the spark that humans would eventually be able to fly…and eventually led to the industry of aviation. Thoughts and ideas can travel fast like quicksilver in the archetype of the Gemini Genius. I suggest reading about his myth, and also the story of his counterparts; the Egyptian Thoth and Norse Loki.

This is the New Moon to begin a journal. Especially those with Gemini prominent in their chart as their minds are easily distracted by the social behavior of others and their own internal whims. I have often heard a Gemini make a decision only to change it shortly thereafter…if they haven’t dismissed it all together…hence the trait scatter brained. Gemini needs to know Why? Many people use journals for calendars, appointments and goals…rather than self-reflection and expression. Forget the attitude and think gratitude. Start focusing on the wins, rather than the losses in your life. Whatever you do, try to do it with an open mind and most importantly with an open heart…for it is the caterpillar that eventually transforms into the butterfly…opening its wings to fly!

Full Moon in Scorpio

scorpio

May 10, 2017  2:42 pm  PDT

The Sun and Moon in their perpetual movement have danced apart and are now facing one another like a Matador waving a red cloth of passion, desire and even anger…taunting the Bull with lust, impatience and potential death. A ritual is thus performed between opposing forces that seek to defeat the other, rather than meeting upon common ground.  The Sun (the Core of our Being) in Taurus, like Ferdinand the Bull, once again yearns to smell all the flowers of spring, rather than being taunted by the Matador beneath the Full Moon (our Mood, Instinct)  in Scorpio. With the Sun in Taurus those who have kept their New Moon intention during this lunation cycle will probably hit the bull’s eye in a way that may present one with an unexpected  surprise…depending on the tending of that New Moon seed…and for some an intense power struggle to breakthrough the shell of ignorance and fear.  Those with Scorpio or a stellium of planets in the 8th House prominent in their birth chart will feel the impact of personal power and power struggles within partnerships of all types…lovers/friends/family and patriarchal institutions. Simply speaking it is related to the personal cross that we all bear.

Scorpio can be intense, secretive, sexual, powerful, mysterious and destructive. In the Full Moon light we can deconstruct some of the darker myths and transform them into more positive ones.  This is the night to dare to reveal your darkest secrets to those you can trust, above all, your own conscience.  When we carry our so-called secrets that can sting us like a scorpion with guilt and shame…we begin to blame and project our negative energies like a snake filled with venom.  We can become as sick as our secrets. So this is the Full Moon to shed that old skin of resentment and be reborn like the Phoenix from its ashes.

The Moon affects the tides of our personal emotions.  The ebb and flow of all energy.  We live in an era where deception and destruction seem to be projected into our minds by the constant bombardment of controlled media.  Who do we trust?  Inscribed on certain coins are the words: In God We Trust. A penny for your thoughts? Your thoughts must be free from the smokescreens of trickery imposed upon you by others who want power and control. Especially the “divide and conquer” tactic that is being utilized to broaden the gap between our own being and that of others.

No matter what our differences, we all look at the same moon…

Death may destroy the body, but it does not destroy the soul.  So we must be like soul detectives and seek to find and expose those dark demons inside each and every one of us.  Where there is absence of Love, there is Fear.  Why do some people fear the dark?  Use the Light of the Full Moon to illuminate those dark areas that you may fear to tread.

Scorpio is a water sign, however, in the dead of winter it can appear to be as cold, hard and distant as the icy orb Pluto that governs this sign. The Sun in Taurus melts the ice into rivers that eventually lead to the ocean. Now in Spring, the last frost of winter can melt away into streams of conscious transformation and self-empowerment. The Snow Queen (Scorpio) of Winter becomes the May Queen (Taurus) of Spring.  So the Rites of Spring are celebrated on May Day or Beltane to usher in fertility and abundance in the merry month of May.  The Maypole is a fertility symbol used to fructify the soil of Mother Earth.  People dance around the pole with colored ribbons, harmoniously weaving opposing energies into a union of masculine and feminine, like two snakes coil around the staff of Hermes (Caduceus: the Emblem used by the Medical Profession).  People can also join in sexual union to honour the act that procreates life as well as pleasure and harmony.

The Full Moon in Scorpio would be a great opportunity to explore our sexuality and to celebrate our being sexy in a very unique way. Dare to be different.  Channel this restless energy into a more sensual experience with others as well as ourselves.  Sex and Spirit are connected although they have been severed by powers that would divide and conquer us as individuals.  Gather with friends and play a fun game like Clue, Truth Or Dare, or plan a Mystery Solving evening. Lovers could engage in fantasy play or engage in some deep and meaningful dialogue.

Remember, Scorpio energy can be Plutonic in a way that feels as though we might detonate at any moment when the clouds seem to create an atmospheric pressure in our own mind and body. Spring is a season of intense renewal…what life force was dormant is now ready to see the light of day. Scorpio is symbolic of the lower nature Scorpion or Snake within us, but it also contains the higher archetypes of both the Phoenix and the Eagle.  The Phoenix transforms but the Eagle soars high and flies closest to the Sun.

Love by the Moon
