Before the invention of the telescope the Solar System harbored only the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn to the naked eye. Saturday which is named after Saturn is the last day of the week. The Sun (the first day of the week) was considered a Solar Deity or God of Light that was worshiped by different cultures around the globe. Saturn was considered the outer limit of the Solar System and was associated with endings and the God of Darkness. Many ancient cultures created their myths around these seven orbs that are still prevalent today. Even in modern times, certain people suspect the planet Saturn, with its rings to be associated with a lot of negative stereotypes, such as misfortune, since it is associated with limitation, constraint, boundaries and even Satan (the archetypal scapegoat of Capricorn).Saturn is associated with Capricorn which begins around December 21st which is the longest and darkest night of the year, as well as the first day of Winter. It was a time when the Ancient Romans celebrated the Saturnalia (modern day New Year’s festivities) with its endings and beginnings. Six months later, we experience the opposite, with the Sun transiting into Cancer around June 21st, which marks the longest and brightest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere). The Sun is in Cancer (Mother, Nurture,Compassion, Home) and being a Water Sign heralds in the season of Summer when people come out of their own protective shells to search for seashells, crabs and many other creatures (yes, including people) as they retreat to the beach. The water entices us to cool down, nurture and refresh our bodies. On the other side of the Earth, the Moon is Full in the Sign of Capricorn (an Earth sign). Saturn is also in Capricorn and many people will feel tested in the realm of authority, boundaries and limitations. Saturn?Capricorn is associated with governments and the institutional father (patriarchy) whose politics are definitely testing the trust and faith of its citizens. Pluto who was Lord of the Underworld and Death/Destruction (Depth and Transformation) is also currently in Capricorn really pushing it to the vast outer limits.

The Full Moon in Capricorn can be a capricious one at that. It is the Full Moon that can reveal our serious side. We may want to be in control. We will want to appear calm and cool. Secretly, we feel the need to control others (rules, regulations and authority) which can expend a lot of our valuable energy. We need to focus upon control of our own actions rather than accusing others of having negative energy or bad karma. The inner rebel may very well want to howl beneath this Full Moon and break through those boundaries and limitations set by others. Again, this is the time we need to reflect upon our own path and learn to take responsibility for our own actions. We can choose to respond (take responsibility) or react irresponsibly to the obstacles that appear to be in our way.

The Goat has long been associated with Capricorn. The uphill climb, on a sometimes steep and rugged hill, can be a thrill of a lifetime. Some of us are reluctant to take that extra step. Since Capricorn is also linked with Career, some of us will clash head on with our boss or the bossy-ness of others. No one likes to be told what to do, so be mindful when requesting assistance in any undertaking. Remember, when you ask you may not always receive, so be respectful of other peoples’ boundaries also.

Capricorn (an Earth Sign) wants to create structure and support in the traditional sense. Too much water will turn the ground into mud. When we throw mud we lose ground. A lot of persons with Capricorn Sun, Moon, Rising or orbs prominent in this sign, can feel swamped and tend to be rigid when it comes to their emotions. They become so focused on their reputation and social status that they fear rejection to the point of being wound up so tight when it comes to their feelings. Lack of healthy emotional release can manifest in disease of the bones in particular. Remember, repression leads to depression. Yet, the beautiful lotus flower is born out of the deep dark and murky mud.

Time is what keeps everything from happening at once.

Capricorn is the Teacher. A wise teacher will honor both the student and the teacher in others. Saturn is also associated with old age and wisdom. We all have our lessons to learn. Learn to heed to the teachings of your own experience. We go to school and are taught a plethora of structured, limited and old ways of education, which we begin to unlearn as we grow older.

Life experience is the greatest teacher, it gives us the test first, and then, we learn the lesson.

It is said that Time is the greatest healer. Saturn is the Task Maker and our sense of Duty currently in the sign of higher learning and foreign culture but more importantly, our faith. Many people are experiencing a test in their faith with all the negative and toxic media reports that are a drop in a vast ocean of human experience and perception of reality.  Perhaps, we willingly allow time to limit our freedom. We all face the reality of time running out. Time is a paradox: a technical gadget that we shackle around our wrists. I once wrote: Time is two hands on a clock, reaching out to strangle me (that’s my Capricorn Moon talking). There is Universal Time, Earth Time and Human Time (we all have our own circadian or internal clock). So, take the time to stretch up when you reach for the stars.

New Moon in Gemini

Johfra Gemini

June 13, 2018   12:43 pm  PDT

The Sun and the Moon are currently in the Sign of the Twins: Gemini. Cogito Ergo Sum translates: “I think, therefore I am”,  which was coined by the French philosopher Renee Descartes. Gemini, being an Air Sign, is a Creative Thinker or Genius. The New Moon is a great time to continue the journey toward the within. Our thoughts may turn inward, only to move outward, as we will want to communicate with others. A lot of Gemini types appear to have their head in the attic of rationality. However, it is important for Gemini to allow their feelings to be experienced in the heart, rather than only the head.

The heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of ~Blaise Pascal.

Gemini which will lend to the duality theme during the coming weeks can bring about a fluctuation of moods as we navigate our way through the pillars of Gemini between sense and nonsense we may continue to feel divided between what we think and how we feel. The Sins of the Father become the Compassion of the Mother. The House that the New Moon transits can reveal what areas in our lives need attention at this time. Mars (Action) is also challenging Mercury in the sign it governs Gemini…and in the realm of action and reaction there may be conflict but also the opportunity to speak from the heart. Learning to integrate any opposing energies can be a motion such as the martial arts that transcends the great divide.

The greatest distance between two people is miscommunication.

Gemini is the social butterfly that loves to flutter around and experience all of the variety of flowers in bloom. Sometimes the Social Gemini Moon can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children’s game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person’s ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context. Be mindful before speaking. In other words, put your mouth in gear before you put it into action (unless there is room in it for your foot).Gemini will spy with their logical eye to make sense of the nonsense. They are usually rather witty and interesting people. They tend to stick their finger in every pie like Georgie Porgie and can be mischievous like Curious George…although they can be fun to monkey around with. Sometimes when Geminis’ curiosity is aroused they can go bananas by attempting to understand everything new under the Sun.

What the caterpillar calls death, the butterfly calls life.

Nervousness and worry are common traits of Gemini. Although they are not so prone to worry like their astro-cousins Virgo which is also associated with Mercury. Gemini rules the eyes and nervous system where an underlying restlessness is common. They tend to see the glass as either half full or half empty. Other peoples’ emotions can be difficult for Gemini types to handle. They have a way with words riddled with puns and clever wit. Geminis have no time for Taurus bullshit. They can fluctuate between being childlike and childish.

Media has become overloaded and our minds downloaded with a lot of negativity being reported in the news. There is just too much information at our disposal. We are being left to our own devices and experiencing reality through a digital world and cyberspace. This is a great time to turn off the TV/Cell Phone/Computer and tune in to the transmission of the planet and all our relations on an organic level. We are the center of our universe. Everything we think and do has an impact upon ourselves and our immediate surroundings. If we are restless and require distraction, then perhaps we could learn to meditate while practicing deep breathing to calm the nervous system. Gemini is associated with the lungs and nervous system. Think of ways to create Positive Action, then breathe life into it. Yes, the universe exists with both positive and negative energy. We need to bring any opposing forces together through integration and accord.

A world in black and white, hath no color.

The Light Spectrum refuses no color. How would we know day without night? Get outside and bear witness to the beauty that nature paints for us in every moment. As Albert Einstein said: Imagination is far greater than knowledge. Dare to be different. When you change your perception, you transform your world. Remember to respect that other people’s Way may differ from your own. Same planet, different worlds.

There are many myths about Mercury/Hermes, the Ancient Messenger God, who was also known as the Patron of both Merchants, Great Thinkers and Thieves, as well as surfers and skateboarders in modern time. Imagine the mind of Leonardo Da Vinci observing the winged birds and igniting the spark that humans would eventually be able to fly…and eventually led to the industry of aviation. Thoughts and ideas can travel fast like quicksilver in the archetype of the Gemini Genius. I suggest reading about his myth, and also the story of his counterparts; the Egyptian Thoth and Norse Loki.

This is the New Moon to begin a journal. Especially those with Gemini prominent in their chart as their minds are easily distracted by the social behavior of others and their own internal whims. I have often heard a Gemini make a decision only to change it shortly thereafter…if they haven’t dismissed it all together…hence the trait scatter brained. Gemini needs to know Why? Many people use journals for calendars, appointments and goals…rather than self-reflection and expression. Forget the attitude and think gratitude. Start focusing on the wins, rather than the losses in your life. Whatever you do, try to do it with an open mind and most importantly with an open heart…for it is the caterpillar that eventually transforms into the butterfly…opening its wings to fly!

The Sun (Motivation) and the Moon (Mood) are in the Venus (Love, Beauty, Attraction) ruled Earth Sign of Taurus, which is named after the Minotaur.  There is a Greek myth about the Labyrinth and the Bull named after King Minos of Crete.  In modern times, the Labyrinth is still used as a meditative and symbolic pathway.  On our personal journey toward the within, we sometimes find ourselves wandering further away from our center, only to discover that we are actually navigating closer to it.  This is the time to dig deep within ourselves to discover what truly makes us feel secure.

Take the time to find a seed within your own heart and bring forth a flower

Security is experienced on many levels, particularly the realm of matter or the material realm.  How many of us live our lives with a false sense of security?  Here is the perfect Moon Cycle to question the meaning of being secure on every level.  Money does not create emotional security.  Love does not create financial security (although partnership can come with limited benefits).  Like the many gardeners that get their hands dirty cultivating the soil of their gardens, we can also unearth some of the misconceptions that have been planted in our own Secret Garden and fertilized with a lot of bullshit that stifles our personal growth.
Why is it that some people are able to make us feel secure, while others make us feel insecure?  I believe it is all about investment.  Who and what do we invest in?  Are we giving and receiving our fair share?  Do we own our possessions or do our possessions own us?  Do we merely borrow our existence or do we own it?  When we feel we are not being respected or honored for our efforts, we may become insecure.
Superficially, we are defined by what we do rather than who we are.  We enter the secular world or realm of the senses…our body temple with nothing of material value or meaning and we depart from it with nothing .  Yet we are conditioned constantly by marketing schemes to convince us to purchase things that we do not necessarily need; or eventually that we do not want.  Again, it is the attachment to the sentiment, rather than the object itself that the Taurus type wants to hold on to.  After all, eventually you will be thrown off by the bull, both literally and figuratively.
Taurus loves the textiles of the earth and has been known to collect antiques.  It is also a very creative and practical sign.  Taurus is slow and placid.  Stubborn and persistent.  Many Taurus  Sun, Moon or Rising are skilled in attracting money and making investments. The Bank teller of the astrological signs. Many will admit that they are clumsy like a bull in a china shop.  Patience is a virtue.  Remember, Ferdinand the Bull taking the time to smell the roses.  However, if a person with a lot of Taurus in their chart does lose their patience, they will charge headstrong with the force of a raging bull.

The Sun and Moon have both transited out of Aries.  Mercury (Communication) is also in Taurus.  It may feel like a war of the roses or a bonfire of the vanities during such phases.  In each of these personal areas of our lives we are affected depending upon which House they are transiting during this time in our birth chart. While some will be springing into positive action and taking up the challenge…others may become restless, irritated and stubborn to the point of conflict. Use this Lunation cycle to sow seeds of loving kindness and compassion that will break through the shell…out of the darkness and into the light of day. Deep breathing allows us to slow down and ground to the sound of our own drum.  The sister of passion is compassion. Be assertive rather than aggressive.

Goddess on the mountaintop and Venus was her name…

She is the May Queen that flirts with the earth…now covered in green and embroidered with colourful flowers coming into full bloom during the Merry Month of May. Think about our earth’s resources and how insufficiently they are being distributed.  There are enough natural resources to feed, shelter and clothe those who live in poverty.  We all need to grab the bull by the horns and harness its power and connection to Mother Earth.

If we give her back her diamond, she will offer up her pearl. ~Dead Can Dance

Full Moon in Scorpio

Scorpion and Full Moon

April 29, 2018  5:58 pm  PDT

The Sun and Moon in their perpetual movement have danced apart and are now facing one another like a Matador waving a red cloth of passion, desire and even repressed anger…taunting the Bull with lust, impatience and potential death. A ritual is thus performed between opposing forces that seek to defeat the other, rather than meeting upon common ground.

the more dirt you throw, the more ground you lose…

The Sun (the Core of our Being) in Taurus, like Ferdinand the Bull, once again yearns to smell all the flowers of spring, rather than being taunted by the Matador beneath the Full Moon (our Mood, Instinct)  in intense Scorpio. With the Sun in Taurus those who have kept their New Moon intention during this lunation cycle will probably hit the bull’s eye in a way that may present one with an unexpected  surprise…depending on the tending of that New Moon seed…and for some an intense power struggle to breakthrough the shell of ignorance and fear.  Those with Scorpio or a stellium of planets in the 8th House prominent in their birth chart will feel the impact of personal power and power struggles within partnerships of all types…lovers/friends/family and patriarchal institutions. Simply speaking it is related to the personal cross that we all bear.

Scorpio can be intense, secretive, sexual, powerful, mysterious and destructive. In the Full Moon light we can deconstruct some of the darker myths and transform them into more positive ones.  This is the night to dare to reveal your darkest secrets to those you can trust, above all, your own conscience.  When we carry our so-called secrets that can sting us like a scorpion with guilt and shame…we begin to blame and project our negative energies like a snake filled with venom.  We can become as sick as our secrets. So this is the Full Moon to shed that old skin of resentment and be reborn like the Phoenix from its ashes.

The Moon affects the tides of our personal emotions.  The ebb and flow of all energy.  We live in an era where deception and destruction seem to be projected into our minds by the constant bombardment of controlled media.  Who do we trust?  Inscribed on certain coins are the words: In God We Trust. A penny for your thoughts? Your thoughts must be free from the smokescreens of trickery imposed upon you by others who want power and control. Especially the “divide and conquer” tactic that is being utilized to broaden the gap between our own being and that of others.

No matter what our differences, we all look at the same moon…

Death may destroy the body, but it does not destroy the soul.  So we must be like soul detectives and seek to find and expose those dark demons inside each and every one of us.  Where there is absence of Love, there is Fear.  Why do some people fear the dark?  Use the Light of the Full Moon to illuminate those dark areas that you may fear to tread.

Scorpio is a water sign, however, in the dead of winter it can appear to be as cold, hard and distant as the icy orb Pluto that governs this sign. The Sun in Taurus melts the ice into rivers that eventually lead to the ocean. Now in Spring, the last frost of winter can melt away into streams of conscious transformation and self-empowerment. The Snow Queen (Scorpio) of Winter becomes the May Queen (Taurus) of Spring.  So the Rites of Spring are celebrated on May Day or Beltane to usher in fertility and abundance in the merry month of May.  The Maypole is a fertility symbol used to fructify the soil of Mother Earth.  People dance around the pole with colored ribbons, harmoniously weaving opposing energies into a union of masculine and feminine, like two snakes coil around the staff of Hermes (Caduceus: the Emblem used by the Medical Profession).  People can also join in sexual union to honour the act that procreates life as well as pleasure and harmony.

The Full Moon in Scorpio would be a great opportunity to explore our sexuality and to celebrate our being sexy in a very unique way. Dare to be different.  Channel this restless energy into a more sensual experience with others as well as ourselves.  Sex and Spirit are connected although they have been severed by powers that would divide and conquer us as individuals.  Gather with friends and play a fun game like Clue, Truth Or Dare, or plan a Mystery Solving evening. Lovers could engage in fantasy play or engage in some deep and meaningful dialogue.

Remember, Scorpio energy can be Plutonic in a way that feels as though we might detonate at any moment when the clouds seem to create an atmospheric pressure in our own mind and body. Spring is a season of intense renewal…what life force was dormant is now ready to see the light of day. Scorpio is symbolic of the lower nature Scorpion or Snake within us, but it also contains the higher archetypes of both the Phoenix and the Eagle.  The Phoenix transforms but the Eagle soars high and flies closest to the Sun.

Full Moon in Virgo

Virgo Moon

March 1, 2018  4:51 PM   PDT

                                                Heal Thy Self~Healthy Self

Certain persons can feel the pull between the Sun and the Moon during its 3 night full moon phase (18 hours prior to its peak and 18 hours after..for approximately a total of 36 hours.  Note: 18 is the Moon Card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot). The gravitational effects of the moon on the tides is evident on a daily basis. The pull is stronger during the days surrounding the New and Full Moons which can contribute to major storms and earthquakes with a higher magnitude.  I spoke about the Ancient God of the Sea in my New Moon in Pisces post. In his myth Poseidon would stir up the seas with his trident or thrust it upon the ground causing earthquakes and tsunamis. Neptune in our charts can cause little earthquakes in our personal foundation and a tidal wave of emotion when we survive the whirlpool of our own doubt and fear. Certainly, the vast images captured in Japan, China, Pakistan, South America, the war torn Middle East and other parts of the globe illustrate experiencing chaos; the magnitude of devastation and has shaken many of us around the world.  Since the moon affects the ocean tides it can certainly have an affect upon bodily fluids and the brain’s Cranial Sea.  In fact, the word lunatic is derived from the Latin word for moon which is Luna, because a lot of people would  become instinctive and act wild and crazy during this time of the month. There is much debate around this theory but I notice a lot more lunacy during this time. So the current Lunation Cycle began with a New Moon in Pisces (Transcendance, Imagination, Spirit) and now a Full Moon in Virgo (Work, Health and Service).

This Full Moon in Virgo is not only reflecting the Sun’s light in Pisces (Sensitive, Dreamy, Intuitive, Illusional) but also the recent dark events that have come to light. Virgo is associated with the Winged Messenger Mercury who has certainly been spreading a great deal of news around the world. Modern Communication has brought our attention to something that attracts and distracts…diverting it from something else. Virgo wants to make sense out of the non-sense. Virgo is the Sign of the Caregiver, Planner, Teacher, Repair Person who may worry too much about perfection. Work, Health and Service and reflects the theme of this full moon. How can we be of service during a time of crisis? Especially when the tragedy is somewhere else? Many people will volunteer their work in every form of aid possible. Health and Service Workers of every field are deployed to where disaster hits. When all can donate energy in a variety of ways. There are many concerned about the recent storms and tornadoes striking. Prayers and visualizations from around the globe are being sent to all affected by this catastrophic event. Now is the time to repair the damage and to heal the collective wound.

As I mentioned, Virgo is health and service oriented and it is the Full Moon to focus upon our personal health issues and to commit ourselves to a healthier lifestyle. It can be a time to be mindful of the health of others, in particular the caregivers in our lives. A lot of Virgo energy is channeled through the many caregivers who are often overworked and unappreciated. Our Health Care System seems be inundated with problems and lacking the resources that we are in dire need of. That is why it is important to heed to the words: Physician, Heal Thy Self. We need to explore ways in which we can heal ourselves in Body, Mind and Spirit. There are many healers in this world, but we are our best healer in the long run. I am grateful that there are those who can set broken bones, stitch wounds and save lives. However, I think about the saying: Broken bones mend faster than broken spirits. We need to integrate both Allopathic and Alternative Health Practices. It can be very frustrating when one side dismisses the benefits of the other. Without a healthy planet we cannot expect to be healthy ourselves. I have discovered than when I help to heal others I am also helping to heal myself.

Too much analysis can lead to paralysis

Being a Virgo, I completely concur with the above quote, because Virgo is the Sign of the Analyst.  Anyone with Virgo prominent in their birth chart can be a stickler to detail. Too much detail can derail us from our beingness. Virgo is associated with the stomach and intestines (how we digest our spiritual and emotional foods). It is the Sign of the Perfectionist, and it can be difficult to put away the voice of the Inner Critic that resides in us all. People born with the Moon in Virgo tend to be quite critical of their Self and Other. A Virgo Moon seems to be emotionally aloof because they need to know the facts of the matter before they can open the gate to their Secret Garden of emotion. By comparing, judging and needing to know why, we steer away from the center of our being. Of course we require these cognitive tools at times because Virgo wants to be of service, to work and is health focused. In fact, the Medical Health Care Profession uses the symbol of Mercury’s Winged Staff: Caduceus as their emblem. The two snakes intertwine like the double helix of DNA.

The Sun in Pisces opposing the Virgo full moon. People may tend to be more sensitive and intuitive but unable to communicate it clearly through Neptune’s haze which can lead to illusion and the path of addiction. Attachment to the past and letting go become tricky business. It is time to reorganize…rethink…replace…return…repeat…relive…reorganize…rethink…replace…return…repeat…resolve and to remember that like the planet Mercury appears to be moving backward…so our lives may have seem to take an unexpected turn. So in Virgo fashion…focus on the details and be careful not to overlook any important matters….and clean up any mess you have also left behind.

Healing our Spirit is just as important as taking care of our body. It is here that the elements of Water (Pisces) and Earth (Virgo) can be integrated. Too much water will turn the earth into mud, while too much earth can absorb the water resulting in a dry and barren landscape within. Some of us need to be like the Virgo Hermit and go within to perfect itself through a higher ideal because something requires fixing. The Solar Pisces energy may inspire us to be more creative, musical, poetic, dreamy and mystical. Some of us need to get out of our mind and just let go. Those who are usually very hardworking will want to let loose and escape from all the overwhelming details of the Mundane world and dive deeply into the Sensual world. If you do need to escape, remember: Nothing In Excess. So avoid drinking like a fish even if you feel like a fish out of water.

Everyone is born with the Moon in a particular sign.  The Moon is how we feel and how we howl. It is our connection to our mothers and memories (the word mama is a root of mammary…the gland that offers milk from our mamas). When the moon transits or passes through a particular Sign and House it can affect each person differently. Virgo Moons tend to be motherly but need to be careful about being a martyr. There can be thieving with some forms of giving.  If you were born while the Moon was in either Taurus or Capricorn (also earth signs) you may feel more practical, a need to be grounded or you will bury your feelings.  If you were born with the Moon in Scorpio (a water sign) you may feel less energetic and slow down enough to heed to your own mystery.  While the Natal Moon in a fire sign like Leo can feel less flamboyant as the Virgo Moon’s earth may put out the flames for a few days. Vesta Virgin of the Flame and Hearth with Ceres Goddess of the Grain (where we get the word cereal) will bake you a humble pie and share it with you gracefully. Good time to cleanse the heart and hearth of home.

Whether or not you notice the energy of the Full Moon, may its affect upon you teach you more about your inner (spiritual) world and your place in the outer (secular) world. It is a great time to work with your hands in the intrinsic arts and crafts of our planet Earth.

New Moon in Aquarius

aquarius

February 15, 2018  1:05 PM   PST

“I didn’t change…I just woke up.”

New Moon (named after the Moon) in Aquarius.

Aquarian energy is all about revolution and resolution! Although referred to as an AIR Sign many people mistake it for a WATER Sign because Aquarius is the Water Bearer pouring from the urn of the unconscious mind into the conscious mind. Many persons born with the Sun/Moon/Rising Aquarius in their Birth Chart or a stellium of planets/orbs in the 11th house will feel the restless change stirring within during this Lunation Cycle with the Sun and Moon conjunct Aquarius. I can feel the season changing as the days grow longer…and feel the energy of the seeds about to break through their shell and germinate with the perpetual gift of life reborn. If you actually take the time to feel the earth beneath your feet…you can almost sense the restless seeds that are breaking open, soon to emerge into the light of day and germinate with the gift of change. It all reminds me of the Persian Proverb:

take the time to find a seed within your heart and bring forth a flower

This New Moon begins with the Sun (Motivation) and the Moon (Mood) in the Sign Aquarius. This is the Second Chance New Moon also known as the turn around moon…so take a good look at what is happening in our global community…it is a reflection of all the energies in our innerverse. The humanitarian aspect of Aquarius will also stir up rebellious energy within the sphere of social and political injustices.  If everything is a reflection like the sun’s light upon the moon…then perhaps we could look within and seek communion with our Higher Self…to make change where change begins. It is reconciling both the Masculine and Feminine Principles within each of us…bringing harmony with the yin and yang energies. Aquarius is associated with the planet Uranus which was discovered in 1781 only a few decades after electricity was harnessed and so the flow of energy that would invent the light bulb (metaphorically popping over the heads of the new inventors and scientists with innovating ideas) charging such inventions as the battery, camera and hot air balloon occured. Uranus was also discovered between both the French and American Revolutions. So Aquarius came to be associated with freedom, revolution, rebellion, electricity, eccentricity, technology and the New Age. Here we are centuries later shifting into the Age of Aquarius.

Change is taking place at a more rapid pace, we spend our valuable energy on trying to change so many things at once but as the saying goes:

the more things change, the more they remain the same.

Even Shakespeare said:

Striving to better, oft we mar what is well.

So we expend our resources attempting to change the world around us. Even some people attempt to change others out of fear and ignorance. Our differences are our similarities. “Change our attitude and we change our world”. Nothing is constant but change. So being human (both man/woman) we create and affect change everyday. We engage in change all the time….yes, nothing is constant but change. Therefore, if you want to make change the Crescent Moon following is a perfect opportunity. We are witnessing change on every level in our world. Revolutions have been happening since the dawn of our existence. We are all a part of the global community. Commune means to come together to honour the Free Spirit within us all. Perhaps this is why a lot of Air Signs such as Aquarius are emotionally reserved taking the time to allow the waters of the unconscious to pour out of the urn of their conscious mind. Aquarius is the Water Bearer.

nothing is as soft as water, but who can withstand the raging flood? (Lao-Tzu)

Some Aquarians can send a shocking bolt out of the blue because many of them are great thinkers with eccentric ideas. In Aquarius we transform energy from water into electricity…we allow our tears to flow out of the chalice of our hopes and fears…we begin to feel the shift of the new calendar year and strive to remain in gear with our resolution and intention that we make with ourselves and others. So the cycle continues in the eternal ebb and flow of revolution and evolution. It is time for a recharge. Be a part of the solution. Be a Rebel with a Cause!Note: this is the second New Moon since Winter Solstice which marks the Chinese Lunar Year of the Dog.

When the Sun is shining bright in Aquarius even though we are  still cold in winter…the Moon is reflecting the light in Leo reminding us when we were still hot in summer six months earlier…polar opposites of the Aquarius/Leo axis. Thus we continue the current lunation cycle that began 14 days ago at the New Moon. Where Aquarius proclaims freedom and love of community…Leo roars with need of attention and love of friends.
Leo rules the heart and is associated with the Sun. I like to think of this Full Moon as a night of  lighthearted  fun!  With the Sun (our core identity) in Aquarius and the Moon (our mood) in Leo…it will be the eternal drama between the head and heart…the heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of…an act of love whether for humanity or vanity is still a form of love. This is the time to act and attract the change that you feel in the Heart Chakra/Solar Plexus (both located just above the belly button and near the heart).

All the world’s a stage and we all play our part in it. Leo wants to be in the spotlight and receive attention. Some of us will create drama in our lives in order to feel the recognition that we need. It is a fire sign that can make us somewhat restless and frisky. Romance can be extra hot on this fiery Full Moon which ignites the first signs of spring  fever. This Full Moon occurs during the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. In fact, the month of February is named after the Ancient Roman Goddess Februa who presided over the fever and passion of Love…

Sun lights up the daytime…Moon lights up the night…Everybody’s got the fever…That is something you should know…Fever isn’t such a new scene…Fever started long ago…

It is no wonder that we celebrate the Festival of Romance with white, red and pink hearts on Valentine’s Day. Vali was a Norse archer god (Valiant, Valour)  while Cupid/Eros was the pansexual Roman/Greek deity of erotic love. Personally, I feel that this celebration of Love has been corrupted by the belief system that love is so conditional; that showering someone with flowers, candy, cards or dinner professes one’s undying love. It is more than simply a Hallmark holiday. Should love be exclusive to couples only? There are so many ways to show that you love someone without having to buy their affection. Remember, there are many degrees of love and it is not to be measured by the monetary value of a gift or extravagant dinner. What an honour it would be to have a loved one create a heartfelt dinner, and then for us to return the favour with a hot bubble bath and an erotic massage. There are a multitude of ways to say: I Love You!

Personally, it is more of a celebration of the One Heart that beats and loves us all unconditionally on this magickal and mysterious tour between birth and death. Love is the absence of fear, so be fearless. To have courage literally translates to have heart. It takes courage to risk being hurt when dealing with affairs of the heart. If you want to be loved, then love. Some people are too proud to risk wearing their heart upon their sleeve. They claim that they have been hurt and betrayed too many times and are unwilling to open their own heart chakra.  They would rather be fierce and allow that proverbial thorn in the lion’s paw to keep them wounded. Perhaps the thorn that pierces their wounded heart could be gently removed by an act of compassion and love. when the heart is full..the eyes overflow…

This is a great night to gather with lovers and friends. As I mentioned, Leo is a fire sign and can ignite this Full Moon night. This is no time to play mind games with ourselves or with others. We all can become a bit self-centered during this time, so play fair. It is the Moon to entertain and to be entertained by going to a concert, the theatre, a sports game or a night on the town dancing. Sitting around a fire with a group of friends would definitely warm up the night. Focus on being creative and having fun…and yes…even a heart to heart with a lover or friend can channel the restless energy.

The Sun in Aquarius (Freedom) is being mirrored by the Moon in Leo (Loyalty) and reminds me of the lion in the film Born Free. Don’t we all just want to be…free? Maybe even a bit wild? With the Sun in the sign of Humanity  and the Moon in Leo of taking heart…is what courage requires with seeds of compassion. In the jungle, no lion sleeps tonight. Remember, not everyone can be the King or Queen of the Jungle all of the time, so make room on your personal stage to allow others to shine in the moonlight too!

A note on Eclipses and Blue Moon: Due to its orbit this full moon will appear bigger and brighter. Some astrologers believe that a blue moon is when two consecutive full moons fall in the same astrological sign rather than the same calendar month. Eclipses are very symbolic of being mindful of not eclipsing the light of others nor allowing others to Eclipse your light.

Full Moon in Cancer

Cancer Moon

January 1, 2018  6:24 PM  PST

Welcome to the first full moon of 2018! Known as the Cold Moon in the Northern Hemisphere when winter heralds in the Full Moon in Cancer.  In fact, this is the Full-feeling Moon that connects us with the Feminine Spirit and the Great Mother which waxes full at 6:24 PM PST. I like to refer to this moon as “I want my mommy moon!”. This Cancer Full Moon is associated with the maternal instinct, hearth, home, compassion, and loving kindness. There are many people who nourish and nurture us in our lives and to them we give thanks. It would be a great gesture to offer the same to them by cooking a meal or baking some treats or even sitting next to a warm fire in both the hearth and heart to share the fondest of memories. To continue the spirit of the season with the ebb and flow of giving and receiving.

The feast of the Yuletide season as the light of the sun offers increasing daylight and warmth in the Northern Hemisphere is over now as the days grow longer and we patiently await the first seeds to break out of their shell and into the light of day.

The astrological sign Cancer is ruled by the Moon. It is a water sign and can flow like the high and low tides of our Cranial Sea. It can be highly sensitive to the moods of others. The Full Moon in Cancer is all about hidden feeling! It  can deepen our need for loved ones.  It can be like a crab hiding beneath a rock needing its space.  Cancer the Crab can be very sensitive and can get a little crabby if the heat is on too strong.  Remember that the crab is protected by a tough shell on the outside but very soft on the inside.  Being a Water Sign, we can easily be washed away by the tide of strong emotion .  Moon and Mood are synonymous and come and go like the tides.  Sometimes we can feel dark and empty like the New Moon or we can feel light and fulfilled like the Full Moon.  Everyone’s mood changes; just as the moon changes during her 29.5 day cycle, sometimes appearing in the sky during the day but somewhat more visible at night.   Cancer is ruled by the Moon.

Even when alone it is a time to honor the truth within our own heart…he hearth of our body temple. To nurture and comfort ourselves with the cleansing and purification of the element of water. As the moon affects the tides of the ocean and luring marine life from the depths of the subterranean sea, so it affects the tides of the ocean and depths of the subconscious. Some of us may become very sensitive and emotional…

when the heart is full, the eyes overflow

The heavy clouds within our own minds can overwhelm us to the point of an emotional cloudburst releasing a myriad of chemicals from our brain when we shed tears. Whoever said that boys and men are not supposed to cry must have been a maniac. I would much rather see tears flowing through emotional wounds as opposed to blood being spilled. It takes a real man to face up to his emotions. Fortunately, we live in a time when we are able to face the fears of our tears more openly.

With the Sun (Motivation) in Capricorn (Limitations, Structure, Time, Discipline, Career Goals)  we may be feeling more down to earth after the restlessness and expansiveness of the Holidays. Some of us discover that we may have overindulged in food or drink. Or simply over spent by feeling obligated to buy gifts that perhaps were not necessary. In any case, the energy of Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) can expose our limitations and urge us to pull in the reins. People’s moods can become more serious. Capricorn represents Father and Cancer represents Mother.

In the North American Native tradition this is also known as the Wolf Moon. I can hear the Lone Wolf howling at the full moon in the cold winter night, like a child cries for its mother. Some of us do not have a mother or a father, but we do have one another. Our chosen family can be just as important as our biological family. Our Tribe…and it is our vibe that attracts our tribe. This Full Moon may stir up a cornucopia of changing moods. If a warm cup of cocoa after a day on the snow covered slopes won’t entice you to stay at home and cozy up by candlelight/fire…then a vacation with family/friends to a tropical beach would be perfect (any beach, any place would be comforting). This is the Mother Moon during the season that celebrates the birth of the many Solar Deities from various cultures.

The Archetypal Great Mother flows through everyone if they are open to the experience. Many people are Care Givers in a variety of ways.  Health Spas, Healing Retreats, Alternative Health Care and Hospices, all offering healing touch with aromatic herbs and remedies.  Nature is a vital part of the Healing Arts.  Those who truly care can have such a miraculous impact in the healing process of others.  We all need to nurture and to be nurtured.  Just watching the adoration, wonder and love in a baby’s eyes for its mother can bring tears to my own.

Mother Earth has the power to give life and also to devour it. We must come to respect that we are all her children and need to take care of her as she has cared for and continues to care for us….the pearl is a symbol of the moon:

“if we give her back her diamond, she will offer up her pearl” ~Dead Can Dance.

New Moon in Sagittarius

sagittarius

December 17, 2017  10:30 PM  PST

In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don’t.  ~ Blaise Pascal

The Sun and Moon are once again in union with the aspiration and optimism of Sagittarius.  The New Moon can feel like a very dark place this time of year with the colder weather ushering us inside our warm homes (those of us who are blessed to have homes) and inside our body temples. The Sun (Motivation), Moon (Mood), Mercury (Communication), Venus (Attraction) and Saturn (Discipline) are creating a stellium of planets in this fire sign.
After a few days of the Moon in Scorpio, the intense and transmuting energy of the power struggles played out in very mysterious and profound ways…we now begin to feel the discipline of Saturn with its constricting rings which can test our limits and especially our faith in the sign Sagittarius. The energy seems to be shifting toward faith, goodwill and kindness. These Holy Days are celebrated in a mosaic of faith and worship of the Light in all of its radiance and glory. Sagittarius is the Sage. We seek value and meaning in the season of peace, love and joy.  This holyday season open up your heart because it is the greatest gift that anyone can give or receive.
There is a wonderful story called The Gift Of The Magi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gift_of_the_Magi  about two lovers who do not have the finances to purchase extravagant gifts for one another. In an ironic twist they make sacrifices to obtain the desired gifts but the gifts are rendered useless. It is a great story to remind ourselves of the magi within us and to follow our own shining star to the place wherein dwells our own divinity.
Sagittarius wants to express its restless energy and propel the wheel of evolution into a more expansive, multi-cultural society of inter-faith with optimism and openess.  It is a time of learning new ways to grow in personal and interpersonal ways. Now is the time to sow the seeds of our faith in ourselves and in others.  It is a time to remember the Teacher within. A time to remember the many healers and mentors in our lives. The archer aims steady allowing the arrow of ambition to make its mark. Sagittarius is also affiliated with the planet Jupiter which is the largest in our Solar System. Due to its size, it has been associated with joy, opportunity, expansiveness, abundance and luck. It had the potential to be another Sun in our Solar System. It is also associated with faith. When the Sun is in Sagittarius, a lot of people celebrate the Season of the Light Bringers of Faith in December. Astronomically and Astrologically we are reminded of that faith when the light of the Sun is reborn at Winter’s Solstice. The Sun appears to standstill as it sets on the southwest horizon marking the shortest day of the year while the Earth’s axis begins its journey toward longer days of warmth and light. In the Nativity story, the Three Magi use both astronomy and astrology to mark the date, time and place of the birth of the Christ Child. They traveled afar being from foreign lands bearing gifts of the Sage. Here we are reminded of the torch bearers of the Light and the archetypes of Sagittarius (travelers, foreigners, wisdom seeker, keeper of the faith and opportunist).
On December 21st the Sun will enter the Earth Sign Capricorn with the symbol of the goat. Hanukkah, Yule, Festivus, Saturnalia, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Years and Twelfth Night are celebrated. In early depictions of St. Nicholas (Kris Kringle, Santa Claus) you will notice that he is riding upon a goat which is the symbol of Capricorn bearing gifts. Due to it’s origins in paganism the goat was replaced by another horned creature the stag which became the reindeer that transports Santa on his sleigh. The modern day depiction of Santa Claus was created by the Coca Cola Company.

Express your enthusiasm with the gratitude of the abundance that we may receive…and remember to share your blessings…whether as a Random Act of Kindness…an encouraging word…a gentle touch…a warm embrace…just aim from the heart and shoot for the stars! However you celebrate the holyday season may it be filled with Light, Laughter and Love.

Full Moon in Gemini

gray-wolf-howling-at-moon

December 3, 2017  7:46 AM  PST

No matter our differences…we all look at the same moon…

The Sun is currently in Sagittarius igniting the Holy-day Season by marking the beginning of the many Festivals of Light honored during these the darkest days of the year. The Full Moon is solitary in Gemini facing the Sun with all of its luminous beauty. This combination can make our Spirits Bright as we think about how we celebrate our faith or perhaps how others view it as a philosophical question asking what are we truly celebrating? Or we may feel conflicted by the seeming double standards that are witnessed by the frenetic pace of people rushing about…in their quest for value and meaning…and the reason for the Season. It can feel like a bi-polar moon! This full moon is closer in orbit to the earth which is referred to as a Super Moon. Gemini is all about communication. The Sun (Core), Mercury (Communication), Venus (Attraction) and Saturn (Discipline) are opposite the moon in fiery yet faithful Sagittarius.

A vast majority of religions celebrate the Birth of the Light during this month. It is an affirmation and dedication to the many Beings of Light who have been Spiritual Torch Bearers throughout the millennia.

Jupiter rules Sagittarius helping to expand our faith in the true meaning of the holy-days…Sun (Core), Mercury (Communication), Venus (Love) and Saturn (Boundaries) are  currently tenanting this fire sign. People travel short and long distances to be with family and loved ones. To come together and share in the Feast of Abundance and to nestle with one another in the warmth and comfort of the hearth and home. Discussions are shared in the guise of heated debates over shallow and misguided thoughts and others are engaged in deep meaningful conversations sharing each others stories of faith, hope and love.

The Full Moon in Gemini can also make us more restless and anxious as we prepare for all of the many festivities that are celebrated during this time. Office parties are being held and would be a great time to let loose and just be who we are as opposed to what we think we are. We may think we know it all, only to discover that we are pulling the wool over our own eyes when we could be knitting that wool into a sweater that we could gift to someone else. It is a beneficial time to share ideas or new concepts with friends and colleagues as it is the Social Networking Moon.

Again, Communication is a key component of Gemini and this is a time to get those letters, cards and parcels off to loved ones to make it safely through the hustle and bustle of the season. No one wants to be alone during this time. Turn off the TV and attend a Holy-day concert or one of the many Festival of Light Celebrations talking over a cup of warm holy-day cheer with others.

This would be a great moon to be inspired with gift giving ideas. It’s not all about overspending and stressing out in the consumption of too many needless things, only to end up feeling exhausted and resentful for having endured the long line ups and expensive purchases. Think expansive rather than expensive. Too much of something can end up being a whole lot of nothing. We have many gifts that we can create and share with others.

Sometimes the Gemini Sun, Moon or Rising person is the social butterfly on the fly needing to know why…and loving a good conversation whether behaving friendly of flippant.  Too much talk can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children’s game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person’s ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context. This is where Mercury the ruler of Gemini plays the trickster teaching us the wisdom in foolishness or even the foolishness in wisdom.

Communication with others may go back and forth and become passive/aggressive. It is not the best time to rationalize feelings as there can be so much mental clutter in our heads that cause confusion for ourselves and other. Travel plans can be unexpectedly thwarted…so be prepared for delays and exercise patience in all of these matters.

This is the Full Moon of Communion with our Higher Aspirations. It is the dance of the Light and Dark Twins in each of us. The Dark Twin being our Shadow which seems to surface during the Dark Time of the year as we catch glimpses of it wherever there is Light that is too bright  like the blinding Sun. You can gaze at the Moon for hours and endless nights only to witness the changing phases due to the shadow effect. Eclipses bring an opportunity to feel what or whom eclipses the Light in our own lives or whether we overshadow others with our own Shadow side.

Sun. Moon and Rising Gemini can feel the swift change of moods also. Flipping from one side of the coin to another. We are all gifts of the Cosmos wrapped and adorned in a myriad of colourful expression; some more decorated than others. However, it is what is inside us that is the actual gift of our own soul personality.

If you can purchase a live Tree for the holy-days you will be able to return it and regift it to Mother Earth for others to enjoy.

Finally, let us be as the Three Magi and keep our eyes upon the North Star and the hope that it symbolizes. The gifts of Light, Life and Love are to be cherished. The Return of the Invincible Sun Sol Invictus will mark the Winter Solstice in just a few weeks.  Be mindful that there are many pathways that seek the Light and when choosing a holy-day greeting consider the many holy-day feasts and rituals that may not where the same mask but share the same Divine Light.

So, eat, drink and be merry! Take care of each other and journey safely! Most of all, enjoy the Magic of the Season…and may the Lamb and the Lion in each and everyone of your hearts lay down together in peace…Happy Holy Days!

Live by the Sun,

Love by the Moon.
