Before the invention of the telescope the Solar System harboured only the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn (as well as the stars) to the naked eye. Saturday which is named after Saturn is the last day of the week. The Sun was considered a Solar Deity or God of Light that was worshiped by different cultures around the globe. Saturn was considered the outer limit of the Solar System and was associated with endings and the God of Darkness. Many ancient cultures created their myths around these seven orbs that are still prevalent today. Even in modern times, certain people suspect the planet Saturn, with its rings to be associated with a lot of negative stereotypes, such as misfortune, since it is associated with limitation, constraint, boundaries and even Satan (the archetypal scapegoat of Capricorn).Saturn is associated with Capricorn which begins around December 21st which is the longest and darkest night of the year, as well as the first day of Winter. It was a time when the Ancient Romans celebrated the Saturnalia (modern day New Year’s festivities) with its endings and beginnings. Six months later, we experience the opposite, with the Sun transiting into Cancer around June 21st, which marks the longest and brightest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere). The Sun is in Cancer (Mother, Nurture,Compassion, Home) and being a Water Sign heralds in the season of Summer when people come out of their own protective shells to search for seashells, crabs and many other creatures (yes, including people) as they retreat to the beach. The water entices us to cool down, nurture and refresh our bodies. On the other side of the Earth, the Moon is Full in the Sign of Capricorn (an Earth sign). Pluto (Depth and Transformation) is also currently in Capricorn.

The Full Moon in Capricorn can be a capricious one at that. It is the Full Moon that can reveal our serious side. We may want to be in control. We will want to appear calm and cool. Secretly, we feel the need to control others (rules, regulations and authority) which can expend a lot of our valuable energy. We need to focus upon control of our own actions rather than accusing others of having negative energy or bad karma. The inner rebel may very well want to howl beneath this Full Moon and break through those boundaries and limitations set by others. Again, this is the time we need to reflect upon our own path and learn to take responsibility for our own actions. We can choose to respond (take responsibility) or react irresponsibly to the obstacles that appear to be in our way.

The Goat has long been associated with Capricorn. The uphill climb, on a sometimes steep and rugged hill, can be a thrill of a lifetime. Some of us are reluctant to take that extra step. Since Capricorn is also linked with Career, some of us will clash head on with our boss or the bossy-ness of others. No one likes to be told what to do, so be mindful when requesting assistance in any undertaking. Remember, when you ask you may not always receive, so be respectful of other peoples’ boundaries also.

Capricorn (an Earth Sign) wants to create structure and support in the traditional sense. Too much water will turn the ground into mud. When we throw mud we lose ground. A lot of persons with Capricorn Sun, Moon, Rising or orbs prominent in this sign, can feel swamped and tend to be rigid when it comes to their emotions. They become so focused on their reputation and social status that they fear rejection to the point of being wound up so tight when it comes to their feelings. Lack of healthy emotional release can manifest in disease of the bones in particular. Remember, repression leads to depression. Yet, the beautiful lotus flower is born out of the deep dark and murky mud.

Time is what keeps everything from happening at once.

Capricorn is the Teacher. A wise teacher will honour both the student and the teacher in others. Saturn is also associated with old age and wisdom. We all have our lessons to learn. Learn to heed to the teachings of your own experience. We go to school and are taught a plethora of structured, limited and old ways of education, which we begin to unlearn as we grow older.

Life experience is the greatest teacher, it gives us the test first, and then, we learn the lesson.

It is said that Time is the greatest healer. Saturn is the Task Maker and our sense of Duty currently in the sign of higher learning and foreign culture but more importantly, our faith. Many people are experiencing a test in their faith with all the negative and toxic media reports that are a drop in a vast ocean of human experience and perception of reality.  Perhaps, we willingly allow time to limit our freedom. We all face the reality of time running out. Time is a paradox: a technical gadget that we shackle around our wrists. I once wrote: Time is two hands on a clock, reaching out to strangle me (that’s my Capricorn Moon talking). There is Universal Time, Earth Time and Human Time (we all have our own circadian or internal clock). So, take the time to stretch up when you reach for the stars.

Live by the Sun,

Love by the Moon.

New Moon in Cancer

Cancer

Artist: Josephine Wall

June 23, 2017  3:06 PM  PDT

The Moon is hiding within the Light of the Sun…a holographic lover in the sky!  The New Moon in Cancer is the Moody Moon…and is all about feeling! It can be like a day at the beach with loved ones.  It can be like a crab hiding beneath a rock needing its space.  Cancer the Crab can be very sensitive and can get a little crabby if the heat is on too strong.  Remember that the shell of a crab is tough on the outside but very soft on the inside.  Being a Water Sign, we can easily be washed away by the tide of strong emotion .  Moon and Mood are synonymous and come and go like the tides.  Sometimes we can feel dark and empty like the New Moon…Sometimes we can feel light and fulfilled like the Full Moon.  Our mood changes; just as the moon changes during her 29.5 day cycle, sometimes appearing in the sky during the day but somewhat more visible at night.   Cancer is ruled by the Moon. This round the Sun (Motivation) and Moon (Mood) are accompanied by the planets Mercury (Communication) and Mars (Action) creating what is referred to by astrologers as a stellium of orbs in the same Sign. This enhances the mood of Cancer’s watery sensitivity. When the Sun is in Cancer it marks the beginning of Summer…a time when families gather and spend more time together during the holidays. Many people return to their homes and roots of origin. It can be a wonderful time but eventually, like the crab, people will sidestep to seek some personal space. The coming Full Moon in Capricorn in about two weeks will be about boundaries.

It is the first New Moon of Summer, so a lot of people will be on vacation retreating near the water, to keep cool from the heat of the Sun.  Some of us will be hanging at the beach, swimming in a lake, fishing on a river or meditating by a waterfall. Others will be singing in the shower or crying in a pillow.  We all want to be nurtured and loved, even when we deny that need.  Cancer is associated with the Mother, Family, Home, Hearth, Cooking, Nurturing, and Compassion.  It draws our attention to our origins.  Some of us have lost our mothers and seek her in others.  Other people need to cut the apron string from an overprotective mother, who tenaciously clings on like a crab, and move on with their own life.
I feel that we are all part of the Great Mother and belong to the World Tree, not only our Family Tree.  There have been many occasions when I did not have the arms of a mother to nurture and protect me.  Instead, I have found solace in Mother Earth who has held and comforted me, when no one else could or would.  She listens without judgment, holding me for as long as I need.  She feeds me and nourishes me.  She wipes away my tears with a gentle breeze and cleanses me with her tears of rain.  She gently cradles me in the water adorned with sunlight sparkling like a thousand diamonds dancing upon the sea. The pearl is found in the shell of certain oysters and is also a symbol of the Moon…our own pearl of wisdom can be hidden beneath a veneer of fear and for many Moon children (Cancer) are very strong protectors of the home and family. Maternal Instinct is highly sensitive in this sign.
The Archetypal Great Mother flows through everyone if they are open to the experience. Many people born with two or more orbs in the Sign Cancer or four or more planets in the same House are often Nurses and Care Givers in a variety of ways.  Health Spas, Healing Retreats, Alternative Health Care and Hospices, all offering healing touch with aromatic herbs and remedies.  Nature is a vital part of the Healing Arts.  Those who truly care can have such a miraculous impact in the healing process of others.  We all need to nurture and to be nurtured.  Just watching the adoration of a baby’s eyes for its mother can bring tears to my own. Lovingkindness and Compassion for each other needs to be tended to like a delicate plant requires attention and nurturing.
During this lunation cycle some of us will be able to sense the thoughts and feelings of others.  It is a time to be mindful of other people’s space, whether it is their home or their privacy.  Home is where the heart is…Om is where the heart is…not everyone is at home in their own body or able to express their true feelings.  Our relationships can mirror the type of connection we have with our selves and the parent that nurtured us the most, which could be either a mother or father.  If we try to trap the crab it will become defensive and move to a hiding place.  It would be foolish to build a castle on quicksand so why attempt to construct a relationship without a solid foundation?
When the heart is full, the eyes overflow
…and as we taste our salty tears may we once again be reminded that we are part of the Great Cosmic Sea. Did you know that the amount of salt in our bodiy fluids is the same as in the sea water. Be sensitive to the needs of others and we will soon forget our own worries. Personally, I feel much better after an opportunity to be able to spend time watching a beautiful sunset in the warmth of summer. Giving thanks for another day…the slumber that comes at night and the promise of a new day.  Live by the sun…Love by the moon.
Take the time to be near or in the water…it can take you back to a time when your body was floating in the womb of mother.  Prepare some nourishing food and reach the beach with friends and loved ones.  Allow yourself to feel all of the elements; as you rest upon the sand of the earth, in the cool ocean of water, breathing in the fresh air, beneath the fire of the sun.  Become one with all that is and in that awesome moment, allow the power of loving kindness and compassion to flow through you.  Again, nurture yourself and nurture others.  Take a vacation from the attachment of consensus reality and just be…or just beach.
Live by the Sun,
Love by the Moon

The Sun is in Gemini and the Moon is Full in Sagittarius. This combo says: Think Big! It seems as though everything in nature is buzzing with communication, while the days are significantly longer and warmer when we begin making plans for the summer. This is the Full Moon of Spontaneity! We need to get out of our heads and to expand our conscious awareness. Our thoughts can be direct and focused upon the goals that we aspire to achieve. What or who gets in the way of what our heart truly desires? Rather than act upon impulse…we could tap into the pulse of the One Heart. Jupiter (although retrograde) will aspire many thoughts to aim high for our personal best…depending upon whether we reach for the sky or the stars. It is all about faith…in some cases blind faith. With Saturn (Authority) in Sagittarius it will feel like a fluctuation sometimes with a rubber band effect when people push boundaries with over enthusiastic behavior without heeding to others’ limitations. It is also the Great Test of Faith. Both Jupiter and Saturn are retrograde causing a slow down slippery ahead mindset with so many setbacks that appear to be moving backward rather than forward. Jupiter is expansion and Saturn is restriction. This is very evident in the test of faith and religious intolerance that seems to be relinquishing power and losing the confidence of the people. There is a clash of energy with this placement causing a tug of war causing needless conflict in our own moral dilemma. This is being demonstrated by the recent challenges of free speech and religious freedom with the constraint of Saturn that is associated with restrictions, boundaries, governments and patriarchal institutions.

No matter our differences; we all look at the same sun and moon…

There is a wonderful Greek myth about Hercules and his mentor Chiron.  Chiron was the Wise (Sage) Centaur (half-human/half-animal) who was a Great Teacher and Healer. Teaching, post education and higher learning are all associated with Sagittarius. One day, Hercules went to seek the counsel of his Wise Teacher, where upon his arrival, he was met by a group of Centaurs that were drinking wine. In the short version of this myth, Hercules became impatient and bored due to his Teacher being absent and began to also drink some wine after refusing several offers. Later, when he was intoxicated, Hercules could hear the sound of hooves stomping upon the ground and became nervous. Lacking focus, Hercules reached for the arrows in his quiver and began to shoot aimlessly, until one of the arrows found his friend and teacher, Chiron, wounding him in his leg.  Chiron forgave Hercules for his short sighted error. Thus, Chiron came to be known as the Wounded Healer. Here was a test of one’s faith.  Full Moons tend to draw out our energy escalating into crisis and even violence when people push the limit…and some of us will want to overindulge in food and drink, but we must be careful not to hurt others while in an inebriated state. Otherwise, we may not be wise in our buoyancy and create needless crisis.

Indeed, this is the Full Moon to enjoy a social gathering in the outdoors with friends, family and colleagues. Sitting around a warm fire can imbue many philosophic conversations. Avoid too much gossip and remember; where one finger is pointing, three are pointing back. We all have our tales to tell, try to focus upon the stories that inspire. This is a fire moon that can raise the light of consciousness like a flame to illuminate the darkness of ignorance.  Remember…the Sun is always shining whether in a shroud of cloud or illuminating the other side of the planet. Both Sun and Rain give birth to all the colors of the visible light spectrum.

Sagittarius is also affiliated with the planet Jupiter which is the largest in our Solar System. Due to its size, it has been associated with joy, opportunity, expansiveness, abundance and luck. It had the potential to be another Sun in our galaxy. It is also associated with faith. When the Sun is in Sagittarius, a lot of people celebrate the Season of the Light Bringers of Faith in December. We are reminded of that faith when the light of the Full Moon in Sagittarius shines brightly in the early summer sky. Again, it will be followed by the longest days of the year. Time for summer fun! This is the Full Moon to take a leap of faith. So try to be optimystic and reach for the sky before you reach for the stars.

New Moon in Gemini

gemini-sisters

May 25, 2017   12:44 pm  PDT

The Sun and the Moon are currently in the Sign of the Twins: Gemini. Cogito Ergo Sum translates: “I think, therefore I am”,  which was coined by the French philosopher Renee Descartes. Gemini, being an Air Sign, is a Creative Thinker or Genius. The New Moon is a great time to continue the journey toward the within. Our thoughts may turn inward, only to move outward, as we will want to communicate with others. A lot of Gemini types appear to have their head in the attic of rationality. However, it is important for Gemini to allow their feelings to be experienced in the heart, rather than only the head.

The heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of ~Blaise Pascal.

Gemini which will lend to the duality theme during the coming weeks can bring about a fluctuation of moods as we navigate our way through the pillars of Gemini between sense and nonsense we may continue to feel divided between what we think and how we feel. The Sins of the Father become the Compassion of the Mother. The House that the New Moon transits can reveal what areas in our lives need attention at this time. Mars (Action) is also challenging Mercury in the sign it governs Gemini…and in the realm of action and reaction there may be conflict but also the opportunity to speak from the heart. Learning to integrate any opposing energies can be a motion such as the martial arts that transcends the great divide.

The greatest distance between two people is miscommunication.

Gemini is the social butterfly that loves to flutter around and experience all of the variety of flowers in bloom. Sometimes the Social Gemini Moon can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children’s game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person’s ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context. Be mindful before speaking. In other words, put your mouth in gear before you put it into action (unless there is room in it for your foot).Gemini will spy with their logical eye to make sense of the nonsense. They are usually rather witty and interesting people. They tend to stick their finger in every pie like Georgie Porgie and can be mischievous like Curious George…although they can be fun to monkey around with. Sometimes when Geminis’ curiosity is aroused they can go bananas by attempting to understand everything new under the Sun.

What the caterpillar calls death, the butterfly calls life.

Nervousness and worry are common traits of Gemini. Although they are not so prone to worry like their astro-cousins Virgo which is also associated with Mercury. Gemini rules the eyes and nervous system where an underlying restlessness is common. They tend to see the glass as either half full or half empty. Other peoples’ emotions can be difficult for Gemini types to handle. They have a way with words riddled with puns and clever wit. Geminis have no time for Taurus bullshit. They can fluctuate between being childlike and childish.

Media has become overloaded and our minds downloaded with a lot of negativity being reported in the news. There is just too much information at our disposal. We are being left to our own devices and experiencing reality through a digital world and cyberspace. This is a great time to turn off the TV/Cell Phone/Computer and tune in to the transmission of the planet and all our relations on an organic level. We are the center of our universe. Everything we think and do has an impact upon ourselves and our immediate surroundings. If we are restless and require distraction, then perhaps we could learn to meditate while practicing deep breathing to calm the nervous system. Gemini is associated with the lungs and nervous system. Think of ways to create Positive Action, then breathe life into it. Yes, the universe exists with both positive and negative energy. We need to bring any opposing forces together through integration and accord.

A world in black and white, hath no color.

The Light Spectrum refuses no color. How would we know day without night? Get outside and bear witness to the beauty that nature paints for us in every moment. As Albert Einstein said: Imagination is far greater than knowledge. Dare to be different. When you change your perception, you transform your world. Remember to respect that other people’s Way may differ from your own. Same planet, different worlds.

There are many myths about Mercury/Hermes, the Ancient Messenger God, who was also known as the Patron of both Merchants, Great Thinkers and Thieves, as well as surfers and skateboarders in modern time. Imagine the mind of Leonardo Da Vinci observing the winged birds and igniting the spark that humans would eventually be able to fly…and eventually led to the industry of aviation. Thoughts and ideas can travel fast like quicksilver in the archetype of the Gemini Genius. I suggest reading about his myth, and also the story of his counterparts; the Egyptian Thoth and Norse Loki.

This is the New Moon to begin a journal. Especially those with Gemini prominent in their chart as their minds are easily distracted by the social behavior of others and their own internal whims. I have often heard a Gemini make a decision only to change it shortly thereafter…if they haven’t dismissed it all together…hence the trait scatter brained. Gemini needs to know Why? Many people use journals for calendars, appointments and goals…rather than self-reflection and expression. Forget the attitude and think gratitude. Start focusing on the wins, rather than the losses in your life. Whatever you do, try to do it with an open mind and most importantly with an open heart…for it is the caterpillar that eventually transforms into the butterfly…opening its wings to fly!

Full Moon in Scorpio

scorpio

May 10, 2017  2:42 pm  PDT

The Sun and Moon in their perpetual movement have danced apart and are now facing one another like a Matador waving a red cloth of passion, desire and even anger…taunting the Bull with lust, impatience and potential death. A ritual is thus performed between opposing forces that seek to defeat the other, rather than meeting upon common ground.  The Sun (the Core of our Being) in Taurus, like Ferdinand the Bull, once again yearns to smell all the flowers of spring, rather than being taunted by the Matador beneath the Full Moon (our Mood, Instinct)  in Scorpio. With the Sun in Taurus those who have kept their New Moon intention during this lunation cycle will probably hit the bull’s eye in a way that may present one with an unexpected  surprise…depending on the tending of that New Moon seed…and for some an intense power struggle to breakthrough the shell of ignorance and fear.  Those with Scorpio or a stellium of planets in the 8th House prominent in their birth chart will feel the impact of personal power and power struggles within partnerships of all types…lovers/friends/family and patriarchal institutions. Simply speaking it is related to the personal cross that we all bear.

Scorpio can be intense, secretive, sexual, powerful, mysterious and destructive. In the Full Moon light we can deconstruct some of the darker myths and transform them into more positive ones.  This is the night to dare to reveal your darkest secrets to those you can trust, above all, your own conscience.  When we carry our so-called secrets that can sting us like a scorpion with guilt and shame…we begin to blame and project our negative energies like a snake filled with venom.  We can become as sick as our secrets. So this is the Full Moon to shed that old skin of resentment and be reborn like the Phoenix from its ashes.

The Moon affects the tides of our personal emotions.  The ebb and flow of all energy.  We live in an era where deception and destruction seem to be projected into our minds by the constant bombardment of controlled media.  Who do we trust?  Inscribed on certain coins are the words: In God We Trust. A penny for your thoughts? Your thoughts must be free from the smokescreens of trickery imposed upon you by others who want power and control. Especially the “divide and conquer” tactic that is being utilized to broaden the gap between our own being and that of others.

No matter what our differences, we all look at the same moon…

Death may destroy the body, but it does not destroy the soul.  So we must be like soul detectives and seek to find and expose those dark demons inside each and every one of us.  Where there is absence of Love, there is Fear.  Why do some people fear the dark?  Use the Light of the Full Moon to illuminate those dark areas that you may fear to tread.

Scorpio is a water sign, however, in the dead of winter it can appear to be as cold, hard and distant as the icy orb Pluto that governs this sign. The Sun in Taurus melts the ice into rivers that eventually lead to the ocean. Now in Spring, the last frost of winter can melt away into streams of conscious transformation and self-empowerment. The Snow Queen (Scorpio) of Winter becomes the May Queen (Taurus) of Spring.  So the Rites of Spring are celebrated on May Day or Beltane to usher in fertility and abundance in the merry month of May.  The Maypole is a fertility symbol used to fructify the soil of Mother Earth.  People dance around the pole with colored ribbons, harmoniously weaving opposing energies into a union of masculine and feminine, like two snakes coil around the staff of Hermes (Caduceus: the Emblem used by the Medical Profession).  People can also join in sexual union to honour the act that procreates life as well as pleasure and harmony.

The Full Moon in Scorpio would be a great opportunity to explore our sexuality and to celebrate our being sexy in a very unique way. Dare to be different.  Channel this restless energy into a more sensual experience with others as well as ourselves.  Sex and Spirit are connected although they have been severed by powers that would divide and conquer us as individuals.  Gather with friends and play a fun game like Clue, Truth Or Dare, or plan a Mystery Solving evening. Lovers could engage in fantasy play or engage in some deep and meaningful dialogue.

Remember, Scorpio energy can be Plutonic in a way that feels as though we might detonate at any moment when the clouds seem to create an atmospheric pressure in our own mind and body. Spring is a season of intense renewal…what life force was dormant is now ready to see the light of day. Scorpio is symbolic of the lower nature Scorpion or Snake within us, but it also contains the higher archetypes of both the Phoenix and the Eagle.  The Phoenix transforms but the Eagle soars high and flies closest to the Sun.

New Moon in Taurus

web_taurus

April 26, 2017 5:16 AM  PDT

The Sun (Motivation) and the Moon (Mood) are in the Venus (Love, Beauty, Attraction) ruled Earth Sign of Taurus, which is named after the Minotaur.  There is a Greek myth about the Labyrinth and the Bull named after King Minos of Crete.  In modern times, the Labyrinth is still used as a meditative and symbolic pathway.  On our personal journey toward the within, we sometimes find ourselves wandering further away from our center, only to discover that we are actually navigating closer to it.  This is the time to dig deep within ourselves to discover what truly makes us feel secure.

Take the time to find a seed within your own heart and bring forth a flower

Security is experienced on many levels, particularly the realm of matter or the material realm.  How many of us live our lives with a false sense of security?  Here is the perfect Moon Cycle to question the meaning of being secure on every level.  Money does not create emotional security.  Love does not create financial security (although partnership can come with limited benefits).  Like the many gardeners that get their hands dirty cultivating the soil of their gardens, we can also unearth some of the misconceptions that have been planted in our own Secret Garden and fertilized with a lot of bullshit that stifles our personal growth.
Why is it that some people are able to make us feel secure, while others make us feel insecure?  I believe it is all about investment.  Who and what do we invest in?  Are we giving and receiving our fair share?  Do we own our possessions or do our possessions own us?  Do we merely borrow our existence or do we own it?  When we feel we are not being respected or honored for our efforts, we may become insecure.
Superficially, we are defined by what we do rather than who we are.  We enter the secular world or realm of the senses…our body temple with nothing of material value or meaning and we depart from it with nothing .  Yet we are conditioned constantly by marketing schemes to convince us to purchase things that we do not necessarily need; or eventually that we do not want.  Again, it is the attachment to the sentiment, rather than the object itself that the Taurus type wants to hold on to.  After all, eventually you will be thrown off by the bull, both literally and figuratively.
Taurus loves the textiles of the earth and has been known to collect antiques.  It is also a very creative and practical sign.  Taurus is slow and placid.  Stubborn and persistent.  Many Taurus  Sun, Moon or Rising are skilled in attracting money and making investments. The Bank teller of the astrological signs. Many will admit that they are clumsy like a bull in a china shop.  Patience is a virtue.  Remember, Ferdinand the Bull taking the time to smell the roses.  However, if a person with a lot of Taurus in their chart does lose their patience, they will charge headstrong with the force of a raging bull.

The Sun and Moon have both transited out of Aries.  Mercury (Communication) is still retrograde in Aries (Action, Challenge, Conflict) until May 3, 2017.  It may feel like a war of the roses or a bonfire of the vanities during such phases.  In each of these personal areas of our lives we are affected depending upon which House they are transiting during this time in our birth chart. While some will be springing into positive action and taking up the challenge…others may become restless, irritated and stubborn to the point of conflict. Use this Lunation cycle to sow seeds of lovingkindness and compassion that will break through the shell…out of the darkness and into the light of day. Deep breathing allows us to slow down and ground to the sound of our own drum.  The sister of passion is compassion. Be assertive rather than aggressive.

Goddess on the mountaintop and Venus was her name…

She is the May Queen that flirts with the earth…now covered in green and embroidered with colourful flowers coming into full bloom during the Merry Month of May. Think about our earth’s resources and how insufficiently they are being distributed.  There are enough natural resources to feed, shelter and clothe those who live in poverty.  We all need to grab the bull by the horns and harness its power and connection to Mother Earth.

If we give her back her diamond, she will offer up her pearl. ~Dead Can Dance

Full Moon in Libra

libra

April 10, 2017  11:08 PM  PDT

Did you know that going to the Ball  had its origin in the custom of going to a party or social gathering during a Full Moon?  Prior to electricity, people would rely upon the Full Moon to light up the night of festivities, therefore, being referred to as the Ball. These days certain people still gather beneath the Full Moon.  The Mirror Ball (Disco Ball) in most dance clubs replicates the light of the moon by reflecting the rays of the spotlight…into  myriad projections of artificial moonbeams affecting each person’s mood in a unique way. On a grander scale it can affect the weather and the magnitude of earthquakes. As the moon affects our ocean’s tides it must also have an affect upon our bodily fluids. Mood swings in the Cranial Sea, women’s menstruation and patients bleeding more profusely during surgery. One thing most people would agree upon is that the Moon is controversial! Moon/Mood

Welcome the first full moon of Spring!

The current Lunation Cycle began with a New Moon in Aries…affecting the deeper fire within each of us.  The Sun (motivation) and Uranus (Humanity) are still in fiery Aries. Not surprising with conversations around the tension of war in the media due to the violent atrocities around the world.
We used to wonder where war lived, what it was that made it so vile. And now we realize that we know where it lives… inside ourselves. Albert Camus
Collectively, there has been a tremendous amount of unrest within Gaia and within us. I attribute it to the anticipation of the season with an abundance of energy that is struggling to breakthrough…like a seed in the dark soil preparing to shed its shell and emerge into the light of day. In winter, old ways die and in spring are reborn. How do we channel this renewed energy into positive action as opposed to the frenetic activity that can sometimes overwhelm us…whether through media or social interaction.

Where there is light…there is shadow.

Persons born with the Sun in Libra may feel the full moon more intensely as it is the opposite time of the year and balancing opposition is what they strive to do. They may feel indecisive about important matters involving Other. Not all may seem fair in love…and yes, war.

The first Full Moon of Spring is also referred as the Pink Moon because of the many pink blossoms that open up this time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere!  If you look closely you can see the rabbit in the moon. Spring always occurs just before Easter (which always falls on the first Sunday, after the first Full Moon, after the first day of Spring). Each year the Full Moon occurs heralding the festival of Easter and Spring. The Sun rises in the east and thus is our Eastern Star which also marks the beginning of the Astrological New Year. Life seems to be bursting with energy as the days grow longer and warmer. The Sun (motivation) and Uranus (Society) are currently in the Sign Aries (Greek God of War, Action, Aggression) symbolic of the power and fire igniting the season. The Moon (Mood) and Jupiter  (faith) in Libra is diametrically opposed to the Sun, reflecting the restlessness of  Spring Fever .  Libra is associated with the ancient Roman Goddess Venus of Beauty and Love (Aphrodite: Greek Goddess of Love, Beauty, Arts) is the sign of Balance, Justice, Fairness, Truth, Beauty, and Harmony. Imagine the two Greek deities facing off:  the male God of Martial Arts and War opposite the female Goddess of Marital Arts and Peace.  Is it possible to integrate this archetypal conflict in our personal lives, so that we may be the love and peace that we seek through positive action?  We continue to pray for peace in the Middle East, yet we neglect the war within our own country and within ourselves. I ponder this dilemma as I gaze at the Full Moon encompassed by a rainbow aura of peace and contentment.  Do War and Peace even belong in the same sentence?  If I were to allow myself to be bombarded by images of war and violence in the media, I would never have the opportunity to seek and experience peace. When I walk along streets canopied with Cherry Blossoms ( a gift to us from Japan), I am certainly intoxicated with a sense of  peace, as nature continues to paint a breathtaking portrait of beauty each and every moment.

Since this is the Full Moon of Love and Peace, some of us may be yearning intimate connections with others. How beautiful life is when we take the time to see it in all its glory. The Sun is warming but can also burn. Nature contains opposites which seek to balance. Aries is the Sign of independence ~ Libra is the Sign of inter-dependence. Aries offers the fuel for positive action and in its opposite sign we gravitate to Other.

There is a universal justice and the eyes of truth are watching…

There is a balance in the scheme of things that allows us to integrate opposing energies through the Law of Harmony. Libra is associated with the Scales of Balance and Justice, and Harmony, therefore, we tend to weigh the pros and cons while remaining in a state of indecision.  Instead of listening to the voice of the inner critic, perhaps we could recreate a dialogue of compromise and compassion, embracing the The Peaceful Warrior within.  We can create a healthy relationship between our head and our heart.

It can be a perfect time to channel our restless energy by engaging with others in a social gathering. Turn on your charm, creativity and romance.  Make love like the birds and the bees. Hug the trees!  Beauty is everywhere…check it out. Be as the Full Moon and reflect the Light of your Sun on others who may be traversing in the dark.

Just make love, not war

Welcome to the first New Moon of Spring! The Astrological Year began on March 20, 2017 marking the Vernal Equinox (Equal Day/Night as the days grow longer than the night). The Sun and Moon are in Aries initiating us to take action in our personal lives. It represents the self and the selfishness of the Ego when it refuses to listen to the Heart because it is stuck in the Head. The background mood can be extremely passionate in the heat of this night. The energy of this Fire Sign can ignite a lot of restlessness in many of us. Life is bursting forth with renewed forces that can be either positive or negative, depending on how we channel them. Some of us will feel burned out, while others will be amped up and good to go! If we are not mindful of others due to being overly self absorbed we may find ourselves literally ramming into other people and objects. The New Moon is like a magnetic pull from within the fire in our belly. Are we angry at someone and denying our own hurt? This is where conflict begins: the Self. Aries rules the Self or the Ego. It is a force to be reckoned with. We need to learn the difference between assertion and aggression.

Ares was the Greek God of Action and War (the opposite of his sister Aphrodite: Greek Goddess of Love and Peace) and was worshiped by Warlords in Ancient Greece. In Rome he was known as the God Mars who gave the name to the month of March. The martial arts are ruled by this sign. In fact, Ares is still worshiped today in an archetypal way. Billions of dollars are invested in warfare and the depletion of natural resources. Aries fuels the exploration of space. It seems ironic that we are unable to explore Venus the symbolic planet of love and peace which is closer to the Sun or Core of the universe…closer to the core of our being. Instead, we probe the Red Planet that has an archetypal link with Ares. We seem obsessed with Martians and other aliens in the realm of science and fantasy. Even if rational science dictates that it is not plausible to explore a planet like Venus, could we not, at the very least, explore the planet of Love symbolically within our own inner verse as opposed to the outer verse? It is interesting that our planet Earth is between two planets that represent War and Peace. Is the truth out there? Or is it in here, inside each and every one of us? Truth is such a personal belief system that seems to always be changing. Life is about transformation in so many ways.

Change your perception and you change your world…

…your personal world…how you perceive it. Mercury (Communication), Venus (Attraction), Saturn (Limitation) and Uranus (Society) are also in Aries and is evident in the many personal/political conflicts that seem to be escalating across the globe.

Life can be a challenge and Aries energy loves a good challenge! Rather than competing with others, we could confront our own Ego by transforming “me” into “we”. Nothing is completely independent yet everything is inter-dependent. Co-dependent has become a very negative cliche. There is so much needless conflict in our world. If we continue to feed only our greed then we sow another angry seed. It is the Ego that separates us from others. Do we multiply only to divide? We are in the Age of Aquarius, not the Age of Aries, and yet we live in a world that has become more and more competitive. A world obsessed with war and strife. How can everything be Number One at the same time? All is One relates to our spiritual connection and not the individuation of the Ego. The universe seems to be part of a Sacred Geometry; therefore, all numbers are relevant and equally important. To claim that there is only one true God (my God versus your God)…well, we all know how wars are started.

The Ram is the animal totem of the sign Aries. A headstrong creature that can butt into personal affairs of others. Yet, inside every ram lies a gentle lamb. The aggressive nature of an Aries Sun/Moon/Rising Sign can be tempered by the other signs and their placements in the Astrological Chart. Although Aries energy can be egotistical, aggressive and competitive in no way implies that all Aries are ruthless and constantly seeking to win a battle. Aries energy can initiate positive action. Fire is a very useful and necessary element as long as it is not implosive or explosive (a rocket scientist would probably argue my point, rightfully so). Aries rules the head and being a fire sign can initiate headaches, inflammation and other irritations that are expression of repression. However, from an esoteric point of view, the New Moon in Aries can be a very direct and exciting time. We can begin projects that require a lot of focus and energy. Aries is also associated with sports where we can experiment with these archetypes in a more constructive and playful way. Unfortunately, a lot of Major League sports have become too aggressive and violent. Sports, like the Olympics (named after the Olympian Champions of Ancient Greece) are a perfect outlet for restless and challenging forces. The lesson isn’t always about winning…it is about being a good sport.

Athena was the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and a sister of Ares. She was born with a spear and shield in hand and unlike her bother who was too impulsive, she invoked the wisdom of the Owl being wise and less rash in her actions. Athena represents the anima of her Brother Ares’ animus. It is said that Ares and Aphrodite bore the twins, Phobos “panic” and Deimos “fear” which together can create conflict. Fear is the absence of love. Both serve a purpose to be explored and understood within each and everyone one of us. Owning our personal inner conflict is winning half the battle. To forge ahead with positive action is our best weapon. As the Pilgrim of Peace said: “If someone were to kill me, they would only be killing my body and not my soul; if I kill another, I destroy my soul”.

Haste makes waste…if you’re looking for a fight or challenging others…you’re adding fire to fire. We find balance, fairness, justice and peace in the opposite sign Libra where we can learn to integrate these qualities by practicing the Way of the Peaceful Warrior. Mars is also in the Sign that it rules Aries which can propel us in either direction if we get caught in the friction of impulsive reaction. Last, but not least, we have Uranus in Aries igniting the social unrest and uprising brought about by hostile aggression…and yet there are humanitarians around the globe harnessing and channeling the energy to take on the challenges that have been imposed upon the many…by the few. Mercury will be transiting back into dreamy Pisces…where just letting go of what is beyond our control.

Aries is also symbolic of the Inner Child. The God Ares was the first born son of Zeus who always sought the love and approval of his father. I believe that a lot of tyrants are simply wounded children seeking the love and approval of an Almighty Father, their own father, the institutional father or their own personal God. Adults are merely children in grown up bodies and we need to rediscover the child in each of us so that we can heal. It is time to remove the superficial band aid, to allow our wounds to truly heal in the fresh air and light of day. It is said in several spiritual traditions that we are to be innocent as children to enter into Heaven, Nirvana, Paradise or state of Bliss.

It is the first New Moon of Spring…so spring into action…better yet…make it positive action!

Full Moon in Virgo

Virgo Moon

March 12, 2017  7:53 am  PDT

                                                Heal Thy Self~Healthy Self

Certain persons can feel the pull between the Sun and the Moon during its 3 night full moon phase (18 hours prior to its peak and 18 hours after..for approximately a total of 36 hours.  Note: 18 is the Moon Card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot). The gravitational effects of the moon on the tides is evident on a daily basis. The pull is stronger during the days surrounding the New and Full Moons which can contribute to major storms and earthquakes with a higher magnitude.  I spoke about the Ancient God of the Sea in my New Moon in Pisces post. In his myth Poseidon would stir up the seas with his trident or thrust it upon the ground causing earthquakes and tsunamis. Neptune in our charts can cause little earthquakes in our personal foundation and a tidal wave of emotion when we survive the whirlpool of our own doubt and fear. Certainly, the vast images captured in Japan, China, Pakistan, South America, the war torn Middle East and other parts of the globe illustrate experiencing chaos; the magnitude of devastation and has shaken many of us around the world.  Since the moon affects the ocean tides it can certainly have an affect upon bodily fluids and the brain’s Cranial Sea.  In fact, the word lunatic is derived from the Latin word for moon which is Luna, because a lot of people would  become instinctive and act wild and crazy during this time of the month. There is much debate around this theory but I notice a lot more lunacy during this time. So the current Lunation Cycle began with a New Moon in Pisces (Transcendance, Imagination, Spirit) and now a Full Moon in Virgo (Work, Health and Service).

This Full Moon in Virgo is not only reflecting the Sun’s light in Pisces (Sensitive, Dreamy, Intuitive, Illusional) but also the recent dark events that have come to light. Virgo is associated with the Winged Messenger Mercury who has certainly been spreading a great deal of news around the world. Modern Communication has brought our attention to something that attracts and distracts…diverting it from something else. Virgo wants to make sense out of the non-sense. Virgo is the Sign of the Caregiver, Planner, Teacher, Repair Person who may worry too much about perfection. Work, Health and Service and reflects the theme of this full moon. How can we be of service during a time of crisis? Especially when the tragedy is somewhere else? Many people will volunteer their work in every form of aid possible. Health and Service Workers of every field are deployed to where disaster hits. When all can donate energy in a variety of ways. There are many concerned about the recent storms and tornadoes striking. Prayers and visualizations from around the globe are being sent to all affected by this catastrophic event. Now is the time to repair the damage and to heal the collective wound.

As I mentioned, Virgo is health and service oriented and it is the Full Moon to focus upon our personal health issues and to commit ourselves to a healthier lifestyle. It can be a time to be mindful of the health of others, in particular the caregivers in our lives. A lot of Virgo energy is channeled through the many caregivers who are often overworked and unappreciated. Our Health Care System seems be inundated with problems and lacking the resources that we are in dire need of. That is why it is important to heed to the words: Physician, Heal Thy Self. We need to explore ways in which we can heal ourselves in Body, Mind and Spirit. There are many healers in this world, but we are our best healer in the long run. I am grateful that there are those who can set broken bones, stitch wounds and save lives. However, I think about the saying: Broken bones mend faster than broken spirits. We need to integrate both Allopathic and Alternative Health Practices. It can be very frustrating when one side dismisses the benefits of the other. Without a healthy planet we cannot expect to be healthy ourselves. I have discovered than when I help to heal others I am also helping to heal myself.

Too much analysis can lead to paralysis

Being a Virgo, I completely concur with the above quote, because Virgo is the Sign of the Analyst.  Anyone with Virgo prominent in their birth chart can be a stickler to detail. Too much detail can derail us from our beingness. Virgo is associated with the stomach and intestines (how we digest our spiritual and emotional foods). It is the Sign of the Perfectionist, and it can be difficult to put away the voice of the Inner Critic that resides in us all. People born with the Moon in Virgo tend to be quite critical of their Self and Other. A Virgo Moon seems to be emotionally aloof because they need to know the facts of the matter before they can open the gate to their Secret Garden of emotion. By comparing, judging and needing to know why, we steer away from the center of our being. Of course we require these cognitive tools at times because Virgo wants to be of service, to work and is health focused. In fact, the Medical Health Care Profession uses the symbol of Mercury’s Winged Staff: Caduceus as their emblem. The two snakes intertwine like the double helix of DNA.

The Sun in Pisces opposing the Virgo full moon. People may tend to be more sensitive and intuitive but unable to communicate it clearly through Neptune’s haze which can lead to illusion and the path of addiction. Attachment to the past and letting go become tricky business. It is time to reorganize…rethink…replace…return…repeat…relive…reorganize…rethink…replace…return…repeat…resolve and to remember that like the planet Mercury appears to be moving backward…so our lives may have seem to take an unexpected turn. So in Virgo fashion…focus on the details and be careful not to overlook any important matters….and clean up any mess you have also left behind.

Healing our Spirit is just as important as taking care of our body. It is here that the elements of Water (Pisces) and Earth (Virgo) can be integrated. Too much water will turn the earth into mud, while too much earth can absorb the water resulting in a dry and barren landscape within. Some of us need to be like the Virgo Hermit and go within to perfect itself through a higher ideal because something requires fixing. The Solar Pisces energy may inspire us to be more creative, musical, poetic, dreamy and mystical. Some of us need to get out of our mind and just let go. Those who are usually very hardworking will want to let loose and escape from all the overwhelming details of the Mundane world and dive deeply into the Sensual world. If you do need to escape, remember: Nothing In Excess. So avoid drinking like a fish even if you feel like a fish out of water.

Everyone is born with the Moon in a particular sign.  The Moon is how we feel and how we howl. It is our connection to our mothers and memories (the word mama is a root of mammary…the gland that offers milk from our mamas). When the moon transits or passes through a particular Sign and House it can affect each person differently. Virgo Moons tend to be motherly but need to be careful about being a martyr. There can be thieving with some forms of giving.  If you were born while the Moon was in either Taurus or Capricorn (also earth signs) you may feel more practical, a need to be grounded or you will bury your feelings.  If you were born with the Moon in Scorpio (a water sign) you may feel less energetic and slow down enough to heed to your own mystery.  While the Natal Moon in a fire sign like Leo can feel less flamboyant as the Virgo Moon’s earth may put out the flames for a few days. Vesta Virgin of the Flame and Hearth with Ceres Goddess of the Grain (where we get the word cereal) will bake you a humble pie and share it with you gracefully. Good time to cleanse the heart and hearth of home.

Whether or not you notice the energy of the Full Moon, may its affect upon you teach you more about your inner (spiritual) world and your place in the outer (secular) world. It is a great time to work with your hands in the intrinsic arts and crafts of our planet Earth.

Live by the Sun, Love by the Moon…

New Moon in Aquarius

aquarius

January 27, 2017  4:06 pm  PST

“I didn’t change…I just woke up.”

Aquarian energy is all about revolution and resolution! Although referred to as an AIR Sign many people mistake it for a WATER Sign because Aquarius is the Water Bearer pouring from the urn of the unconscious mind into the conscious mind. Many persons born with the Sun/Moon/Rising Aquarius in their Birth Chart will feel the restless change stirring within during this Lunation Cycle with the Sun and Moon conjunct Aquarius. I can feel the season changing and the days growing longer as we approach the midpoint between Winter and Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. If you stand barefoot upon the ground you can feel the energy of the seeds about to break through their shell and germinate with the perpetual gift of life reborn. If you actually take the time to feel the earth beneath your feet…you can almost sense the restless seeds that are breaking open, soon to emerge into the light of day and germinate with the gift of change. It all reminds me of the Persian Proverb:

take the time to find a seed within your heart and bring forth a flower

This New Moon begins with the Sun (Motivation) and the Moon (Mood) in the Sign Aquarius. This is the Second Chance New Moon also known as the turn around moon…so take a good look at what is happening in our global community…it is a reflection of all the energies in our innerverse. The humanitarian aspect of Aquarius will also stir up rebellious energy within the sphere of social and political injustices.  If everything is a reflection like the sun’s light upon the moon…then perhaps we could look within and seek communion with our Higher Self…to make change where change begins. It is reconciling both the Masculine and Feminine Principles within each of us…bringing harmony with the yin and yang energies. There is a lot of needless conflict being orchestrated in the realm of politics which is creating a moral divide within many of us but also a collective catalyst that brings revolution out of devolution. It is the Sign of Humanity and Community.

Aquarius is associated with the planet Uranus which was discovered in 1781 only a few decades after electricity was harnessed beginning the flow of energy that would invent the light bulb (metaphorically popping over the heads of the new inventors and scientists with innovating ideas) charging such inventions as the battery, camera and hot air balloon. Uranus was also discovered between both the French and American Revolutions. So Aquarius came to be associated with freedom, revolution, rebellion, electricity, eccentricity, technology and the New Age. Here we are centuries later shifting into the Age of Aquarius.

Change is taking place at a more rapid pace, we spend our valuable energy on trying to change so many things at once but as the saying goes:

the more things change, the more they remain the same.

Even Shakespeare said: Striving to better, oft we mar what is well.

So we expend our resources attempting to change the world around us. Even some people attempt to change others out of fear and ignorance. Our differences are our similarities. “Change our attitude and we change our world”. Nothing is constant but change. So being human (both man/woman) we create and affect change everyday. We engage in change all the time….yes, nothing is constant but change. Therefore, if you want to make change the Crescent Moon following is a perfect opportunity. We are witnessing change on every level in our world. Revolutions have been happening since the dawn of our existence. We are all a part of the global community. Commune means to come together to honour the Free Spirit within us all. Perhaps this is why a lot of Air Signs such as Aquarius are emotionally reserved taking the time to allow the waters of the unconscious to pour out of the urn and into their conscious mind. Aquarius is the Water Bearer…

nothing is as soft as water, but who can withstand the raging flood?

Some Aquarians can send a shocking bolt out of the blue because many of them are great thinkers with eccentric ideas. In Aquarius we transform energy from water into electricity…we allow our tears to flow out of the chalice of our hopes and fears…we begin to feel the shift of the new calendar year and strive to remain in gear with our resolution and intention that we make with ourselves and others. So the cycle continues in the eternal ebb and flow of revolution and evolution. It is time for a recharge. Be a part of the solution. Be a Rebel with a Cause!
