New Moon in Cancer

Cancer

The Moon is hiding within the Light of the Sun…a holographic lover in the sky!  The New Moon in Cancer is the Moody Moon…and is all about feeling! It can be like a day at the beach with loved ones.  It can be like a crab hiding beneath a rock needing its space.  Cancer the Crab can be very sensitive and can get a little crabby if the heat is on too strong.  Remember that the shell of a crab is tough on the outside but very soft on the inside.  Being a Water Sign, we can easily be washed away by the tide of strong emotion .  Moon and Mood are synonymous and come and go like the tides.  Sometimes we can feel dark and empty like the New Moon…Sometimes we can feel light and fulfilled like the Full Moon.  Our mood changes; just as the moon changes during her 29.5 day cycle, sometimes appearing in the sky during the day but somewhat more visible at night.   Cancer is ruled by the Moon. This round the Sun (Motivation) and Moon (Mood) are accompanied by the planets Mercury (Communication) and Mars (Action) creating what is referred to by astrologers as a stellium of orbs in the same Sign. This enhances the mood of Cancer’s watery sensitivity. When the Sun is in Cancer it marks the beginning of Summer…a time when families gather and spend more time together during the holidays. Many people return to their homes and roots of origin. It can be a wonderful time but eventually, like the crab, people will sidestep to seek some personal space. The coming Full Moon in Capricorn in about two weeks will be about boundaries.

It is the first New Moon of Summer, so a lot of people will be on vacation retreating near the water, to keep cool from the heat of the Sun.  Some of us will be hanging at the beach, swimming in a lake, fishing on a river or meditating by a waterfall. Others will be singing in the shower or crying in a pillow.  We all want to be nurtured and loved, even when we deny that need.  Cancer is associated with the Mother, Family, Home, Hearth, Cooking, Nurturing, and Compassion.  It draws our attention to our origins.  Some of us have lost our mothers and seek her in others.  Other people need to cut the apron string from an overprotective mother, who tenaciously clings on like a crab, and move on with their own life.
I feel that we are all part of the Great Mother and belong to the World Tree, not only our Family Tree.  There have been many occasions when I did not have the arms of a mother to nurture and protect me.  Instead, I have found solace in Mother Earth who has held and comforted me, when no one else could or would.  She listens without judgment, holding me for as long as I need.  She feeds me and nourishes me.  She wipes away my tears with a gentle breeze and cleanses me with her tears of rain.  She gently cradles me in the water adorned with sunlight sparkling like a thousand diamonds dancing upon the sea. The pearl is found in the shell of certain oysters and is also a symbol of the Moon…our own pearl of wisdom can be hidden beneath a veneer of fear and for many Moon children (Cancer) are very strong protectors of the home and family. Maternal Instinct is highly sensitive in this sign.
The Archetypal Great Mother flows through everyone if they are open to the experience. Many people born with two or more orbs in the Sign Cancer or four or more planets in the same House are often Nurses and Care Givers in a variety of ways.  Health Spas, Healing Retreats, Alternative Health Care and Hospices, all offering healing touch with aromatic herbs and remedies.  Nature is a vital part of the Healing Arts.  Those who truly care can have such a miraculous impact in the healing process of others.  We all need to nurture and to be nurtured.  Just watching the adoration of a baby’s eyes for its mother can bring tears to my own. Lovingkindness and Compassion for each other needs to be tended to like a delicate plant requires attention and nurturing.
During this lunation cycle some of us will be able to sense the thoughts and feelings of others.  It is a time to be mindful of other people’s space, whether it is their home or their privacy.  Home is where the heart is…Om is where the heart is…not everyone is at home in their own body or able to express their true feelings.  Our relationships can mirror the type of connection we have with our selves and the parent that nurtured us the most, which could be either a mother or father.  If we try to trap the crab it will become defensive and move to a hiding place.  It would be foolish to build a castle on quicksand so why attempt to construct a relationship without a solid foundation?
When the heart is full, the eyes overflow
…and as we taste our salty tears may we once again be reminded that we are part of the Great Cosmic Sea. Did you know that the amount of salt in our bodiy fluids is the same as in the sea water. Be sensitive to the needs of others and we will soon forget our own worries. Personally, I feel much better after an opportunity to be able to spend time watching a beautiful sunset in the warmth of summer. Giving thanks for another day…the slumber that comes at night and the promise of a new day.  Live by the sun…Love by the moon.
Take the time to be near or in the water…it can take you back to a time when your body was floating in the womb of mother.  Prepare some nourishing food and reach the beach with friends and loved ones.  Allow yourself to feel all of the elements; as you rest upon the sand of the earth, in the cool ocean of water, breathing in the fresh air, beneath the fire of the sun.  Become one with all that is and in that awesome moment, allow the power of loving kindness and compassion to flow through you.  Again, nurture yourself and nurture others.  Take a vacation from the attachment of consensus reality and just be…or just beach.

Love by the Moon

Full Moon in Cancer

January 12, 2017  3:33 am  PST

Welcome to the first full moon of 2017! Known as the Cold Moon in the Northern Hemisphere when winter heralds in the Full Moon in Cancer.  In fact, this is the Full-feeling Moon that connects us with the Feminine Spirit and the Great Mother which waxes full at 3:33 am PST. I like to refer to this moon as “I want my mommy moon!”. This Cancer Full Moon is associated with the maternal instinct, hearth, home, compassion, and loving kindness. There are many people who nourish and nurture us in our lives and to them we give thanks. It would be a great gesture to offer the same to them by cooking a meal or baking some treats or even sitting next to a warm fire in both the hearth and heart to share the fondest of memories. To continue the spirit of the season with the ebb and flow of giving and receiving.

The feast of the Yuletide season as the light of the sun offers increasing daylight and warmth in the Northern Hemisphere is over now as the days grow longer and we patiently await the first seeds to break out of their shell and into the light of day.

The astrological sign Cancer is ruled by the Moon. It is a water sign and can flow like the high and low tides of our Cranial Sea. It can be highly sensitive to the moods of others. The Full Moon in Cancer is all about hidden feeling! It  can deepen our need for loved ones.  It can be like a crab hiding beneath a rock needing its space.  Cancer the Crab can be very sensitive and can get a little crabby if the heat is on too strong.  Remember that the crab is protected by a tough shell on the outside but very soft on the inside.  Being a Water Sign, we can easily be washed away by the tide of strong emotion .  Moon and Mood are synonymous and come and go like the tides.  Sometimes we can feel dark and empty like the New Moon or we can feel light and fulfilled like the Full Moon.  Everyone’s mood changes; just as the moon changes during her 29.5 day cycle, sometimes appearing in the sky during the day but somewhat more visible at night.   Cancer is ruled by the Moon.

Even when alone it is a time to honour the truth within our own heart…he hearth of our body temple. To nurture and comfort ourselves with the cleansing and purification of the element of water. As the moon affects the tides of the ocean and luring marine life from the depths of the subterranean sea, so it affects the tides of the ocean and depths of the subconscious. Some of us may become very sensitive and emotional…

when the heart is full, the eyes overflow

The heavy clouds within our own minds can overwhelm us to the point of an emotional cloudburst releasing a myriad of chemicals from our brain when we shed tears. Whoever said that boys and men are not supposed to cry must have been a maniac. I would much rather see tears flowing through emotional wounds as opposed to blood being spilled. It takes a real man to face up to his emotions. Fortunately, we live in a time when we are able to face the fears of our tears more openly.

With the Sun (Motivation) and Pluto (Power) in Capricorn (Limitations, Structure, Time, Discipline, Career Goals)  we may be feeling more down to earth after the restlessness and expansiveness of the Holidays. Some of us discover that we may have overindulged in food or drink. Or simply over spent by feeling obligated to buy gifts that perhaps were not necessary. In any case, the energy of Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) can expose our limitations and urge us to pull in the reins. People’s moods can become more serious. Capricorn represents Father and Cancer represents Mother.

In the North American Native tradition this is also known as the Wolf Moon. I can hear the Lone Wolf howling at the full moon in the cold winter night, like a child cries for its mother. Some of us do not have a mother or a father, but we do have one another. Our chosen family can be just as important as our biological family. Our Tribe…and it is our vibe that attracts our tribe. This Full Moon may stir up a cornucopia of changing moods. If a warm cup of cocoa after a day on the snow covered slopes won’t entice you to stay at home and cozy up by candlelight/fire…then a vacation with family/friends to a tropical beach would be perfect (any beach, any place would be comforting). This is the Mother Moon during the season that celebrates the birth of the many Solar Deities from various cultures.

The Archetypal Great Mother flows through everyone if they are open to the experience. Many people are Care Givers in a variety of ways. Just watching the adoration, wonder and love in a baby’s eyes for its mother can bring tears to my own.

Mother Earth has the power to give life and also to devour it. We must come to respect that we are all her children and need to take care of her as she has cared for and continues to care for us….the pearl is a symbol of the moon:

“if we give her back her diamond, she will offer up her pearl” ~Dead Can Dance.

New Moon in Aquarius

aquarius

February 8, 2016  6:38 am  PST

“I didn’t change…I just woke up.”

New Moon on Monday (named after the Moon)

Aquarian energy is all about revolution and resolution! Although referred to as an AIR Sign many people mistake it for a WATER Sign because Aquarius is the Water Bearer pouring from the urn of the unconscious mind into the conscious mind. Many persons born with the Sun/Moon/Rising Aquarius in their Birth Chart will feel the restless change stirring within during this Lunation Cycle with the Sun and Moon conjunct Aquarius. I can feel the season changing as the days grow longer…and feel the energy of the seeds about to break through their shell and germinate with the perpetual gift of life reborn. If you actually take the time to feel the earth beneath your feet…you can almost sense the restless seeds that are breaking open, soon to emerge into the light of day and germinate with the gift of change. It all reminds me of the Persian Proverb: take the time to find a seed within your heart and bring forth a flower

This New Moon begins with the Sun (Motivation) and the Moon (Mood) in the Sign Aquarius. This is the Second Chance New Moon also known as the turn around moon…so take a good look at what is happening in our global community…it is a reflection of all the energies in our innerverse. The humanitarian aspect of Aquarius will also stir up rebellious energy within the sphere of social and political injustices.  If everything is a reflection like the sun’s light upon the moon…then perhaps we could look within and seek communion with our Higher Self…to make change where change begins. It is reconciling both the Masculine and Feminine Principles within each of us…bringing harmony with the yin and yang energies. Aquarius is associated with the planet Uranus which was discovered in 1781 only a few decades after electricity was harnessed beginning the flow of energy that would invent the light bulb (metaphorically popping over the heads of the new inventors and scientists with innovating ideas) charging such inventions as the battery, camera and hot air balloon. Uranus was also discovered between both the French and American Revolutions. So Aquarius came to be associated with freedom, revolution, rebellion, electricity, eccentricity, technology and the New Age. Here we are centuries later shifting into the Age of Aquarius.

Change is taking place at a more rapid pace, we spend our valuable energy on trying to change so many things at once but as the saying goes: the more things change, the more they remain the same. Even Shakespeare said: Striving to better, oft we mar what is well. So we expend our resources attempting to change the world around us. Even some people attempt to change others out of fear and ignorance. Our differences are our similarities. “Change our attitude and we change our world”. Nothing is constant but change. So being human (both man/woman) we create and affect change everyday. We engage in change all the time….yes, nothing is constant but change. Therefore, if you want to make change the Crescent Moon following is a perfect opportunity. We are witnessing change on every level in our world. Revolutions have been happening since the dawn of our existence. We are all a part of the global community. Commune means to come together to honour the Free Spirit within us all. Perhaps this is why a lot of Air Signs such as Aquarius are emotionally reserved taking the time to allow the waters of the unconscious to pour out of the urn of their conscious mind. Aquarius is the Water Bearer…nothing is as soft as water, but who can withstand the raging flood? (Lao-Tzu). Some Aquarians can send a shocking bolt out of the blue because many of them are great thinkers with eccentric ideas. In Aquarius we transform energy from water into electricity…we allow our tears to flow out of the chalice of our hopes and fears…we begin to feel the shift of the new calendar year and strive to remain in gear with our resolution and intention that we make with ourselves and others. So the cycle continues in the eternal ebb and flow of revolution and evolution. It is time for a recharge. Be a part of the solution. Be a Rebel with a Cause!

Full Moon in Leo

leo cover size

January 23, 2016  5:45 pm   PST

When the Sun is shining bright in Aquarius although we are  still cold in winter…the Moon is reflecting the light in Leo reminding us when we were still hot in summer six months earlier…polar opposites of the Aquarius/Leo axis. Thus we continue the current lunation cycle that began 14 days ago at the New Moon. Where Aquarius proclaims freedom and love of community…Leo roars with need of attention and love of friends.
Leo rules the heart and is associated with the Sun. I like to think of this Full Moon as a night of  lighthearted  fun!  With the Sun (our core identity) in Aquarius and the Moon (our mood) in Leo…it will be the eternal drama between the head and heart…the heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of…an act of love whether for humanity or vanity is still a form of love. This is the time to act and attract the change that you feel in the Heart Chakra/Solar Plexus (both located just above the belly button and near the heart).

All the world’s a stage and we all play our part in it. Leo wants to be in the spotlight and receive attention. Some of us will create drama in our lives in order to feel the recognition that we need. It is a fire sign that can make us somewhat restless and frisky. Romance can be extra hot on this fiery Full Moon which ignites the first signs of spring  fever. This Full Moon occurs during the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. In fact, the month of February is named after the Ancient Roman Goddess Februa who presided over the fever and passion of Love…

Sun lights up the daytime…Moon lights up the night…Everybody’s got the fever…That is something you should know…Fever isn’t such a new scene…Fever started long ago…

It is no wonder that we celebrate the Festival of Romance with white, red and pink hearts on Valentine’s Day. Vali was a Norse archer god (Valiant, Valour)  while Cupid/Eros was the pansexual Roman/Greek deity of erotic love. Personally, I feel that this celebration of Love has been corrupted by the belief system that love is so conditional; that showering someone with flowers, candy, cards or dinner professes one’s undying love. It is more than simply a Hallmark holiday. Should love be exclusive to couples only? There are so many ways to show that you love someone without having to buy their affection. Remember, there are many degrees of love and it is not to be measured by the monetary value of a gift or extravagant dinner. What an honour it would be to have a loved one create a heartfelt dinner, and then for us to return the favour with a hot bubble bath and an erotic massage. There are a multitude of ways to say: I Love You!

Personally, it is more of a celebration of the One Heart that beats and loves us all unconditionally on this magickal and mysterious tour between birth and death. Love is the absence of fear, so be fearless. To have courage literally translates to have heart. It takes courage to risk being hurt when dealing with affairs of the heart. If you want to be loved, then love. Some people are too proud to risk wearing their heart upon their sleeve. They claim that they have been hurt and betrayed too many times and are unwilling to open their own heart chakra.  They would rather be fierce and allow that proverbial thorn in the lion’s paw to keep them wounded. Perhaps the thorn that pierces their wounded heart could be gently removed by an act of compassion and love. when the heart is full..the eyes overflow…

This is a great night to gather with lovers and friends. As I mentioned, Leo is a fire sign and can ignite this Full Moon night. This is no time to play mind games with ourselves or with others. We all can become a bit self-centered during this time, so play fair. It is the Moon to entertain and to be entertained by going to a concert, the theatre, a sports game or a night on the town dancing. Sitting around a fire with a group of friends would definitely warm up the night. Focus on being creative and having fun…and yes…even a heart to heart with a lover or friend can channel the restless energy.

The Sun in Aquarius (Freedom) is being mirrored by the Moon in Leo (Loyalty) and reminds me of the lion in the film Born Free. Don’t we all just want to be…free? Maybe even a bit wild? With the Sun in the sign of Humanity  and the Moon in Leo of taking heart…is what courage requires with seeds of compassion. In the jungle, no lion sleeps tonight. Remember, not everyone can be the King or Queen of the Jungle all of the time, so make room on your personal stage to allow others to shine in the moonlight too!

Live by the Sun, Love by the Moon…

New Moon in Cancer

July 18, 2012  9:27 PM  PDT

The Moon is hiding within the Light of the Sun…a holographic lover in the sky!  The New Moon in Cancer is the Moody Moon…and is all about feeling! It can be like a day at the beach with loved ones.  It can be like a crab hiding beneath a rock needing its space.  Cancer the Crab can be very sensitive and can get a little crabby if the heat is on too strong.  Remember that the crab is tough on the outside but very soft on the inside.  Being a Water Sign, we can easily be washed away by the tide of strong emotion .  Moon and Mood are synonymous and come and go like the tides.  Sometimes we can feel dark and empty like the New Moon or we can feel light and fulfilled like the Full Moon.  Everyones mood changes; just as the moon changes during her 29.5 day cycle, sometimes appearing in the sky during the day but somewhat more visible at night.   Cancer is ruled by the Moon.

Lovingkindness and Compassion for each other.
During this lunation cycle Mercury is retrograde in the fire sign Leo. Here we find old wounds resurface, our feelings are tricky to articulate into thoughts. Old drama may also take center stage while old friends and lovers appear from behind the curtain. Try to avoid making any important decisions or signing vital documents as we tend to misplace our thoughts and typos while Mercury retrogrades until August 8, 2012. Left to our own devices we may also discover the frustration of our tech devices acting odd. Put down the machine and have a heart to heart face to face. Some of us will be able to sense the thoughts and feelings of others. We wouldn’t build a castle on quicksand so why attempt to construct a relationship without a solid foundation?
