In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don’t.  ~ Blaise Pascal

The Sun and Moon are once again in union with the aspiration and optimism of Sagittarius.  The New Moon can feel like a very dark place this time of year with the colder weather ushering us inside our warm homes (those of us who are blessed to have homes) and inside our body temples. Mercury (Communication) is about to enter its retrograde shadow on December 1, 2016 until it stations retrograde on December 19, 2016 until January 8, 2016 which I will post about tomorrow.
After all the intense, transformative energies of Scorpio played out in very mysterious and profound ways…we begin to feel the discipline of Saturn with its constricting rings which can test our limits and especially our faith in the sign Sagittarius. The energy seems to be shifting toward faith, goodwill and kindness. These Holy Days are celebrated in a mosaic of faith and worship of the Light in all of its radiance and glory. Sagittarius is the Sage. We seek value and meaning in the season of peace, love and joy.  This holyday season open up your heart because it is the greatest gift that anyone can give or receive.
There is a wonderful story called The Gift Of The Magi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gift_of_the_Magi  about two lovers who do not have the finances to purchase extravagant gifts for one another. In an ironic twist they make sacrifices to obtain the desired gifts but the gifts are rendered useless. It is a great story to remind ourselves of the magi within us and to follow our own shining star to the place wherein dwells our own divinity.
Sagittarius wants to express its restless energy and propel the wheel of evolution into a more expansive, multi-cultural society of inter-faith with optimism and openess.  It is a time of learning new ways to grow in personal and interpersonal ways. Now is the time to sow the seeds of our faith in ourselves and in others.  It is a time to remember the Teacher within. A time to remember the many healers and mentors in our lives. The archer aims steady allowing the arrow of ambition to make its mark.Sagittarius is also affiliated with the planet Jupiter which is the largest in our Solar System. Due to its size, it has been associated with joy, opportunity, expansiveness, abundance and luck. It had the potential to be another Sun in our Solar System. It is also associated with faith. When the Sun is in Sagittarius, a lot of people celebrate the Season of the Light Bringers of Faith in December. Astronomically and Astrologically we are reminded of that faith when the light of the Sun is reborn at Winter’s Solstice. The Sun appears to standstill as it sets on the southwest horizon marking the shortest day of the year while the Earth’s axis begins its journey toward longer days of warmth and light. In the Nativity story the Three Magi use both astronomy and astrology to mark the date, time and place of  the birth of the Christ Child. They traveled afar being from foreign lands bearing gifts of the Sage. Here we are reminded of the torch bearers of the Light and the archetypes of Sagittarius (travelers, foreigner, wisdom seeker, keeper of the faith and opportunist). Hanukkah begins on December 24, 2016 with the lighting of the Menorah which is another tradition of ushering the Light into the Dark time of the year.

Express your enthusiasm with the gratitude of the abundance that we may receive…and remember to share your blessings…whether as a Random Act of Kindness…an encouraging word…a gentle touch…a warm embrace…just aim from the heart and shoot for the stars! However you celebrate the holyday season may it be filled with Light, Laughter and Love.

The Sun is in Gemini and the Moon is Full in Sagittarius. This combo says: Think Big! It seems as though everything in nature is buzzing with communication, while the days are significantly longer and warmer when we begin making plans for the summer. This is the Full Moon of Spontaneity! We need to get out of our heads and to expand our conscious awareness. Our thoughts can be direct and focused upon the goals that we aspire to achieve. What or who gets in the way of what our heart truly desires? Rather than act upon impulse…we could tap into the pulse of the One Heart. Jupiter will aspire many thoughts to aim high for our personal best…depending upon whether we reach for the sky or the stars. It is all about faith…in some cases blind faith. With Saturn (Duty) in Sagittarius it will feel like a fluctuation sometimes with a rubber band effect when people push boundaries with over enthusiastic behaviour without heeding to others’ boundaries. It is also the Great Test of Faith.

There is a wonderful Greek myth about Hercules and his mentor,  Chiron.  Chiron was the Wise (Sage) Centaur (half-human/half-animal) who was a Great Teacher and Healer. Teaching, post education and higher learning are all associated with Sagittarius. One day, Hercules went to seek the counsel of his Wise Teacher, where upon his arrival, he was met by a group of Centaurs that were drinking wine. In the short version of this myth, Hercules became impatient and bored due to his Teacher being absent and began to also drink some wine after refusing several offers. Later, when he was intoxicated, Hercules could hear the sound of hooves stomping upon the ground and became nervous. Lacking focus, Hercules reached for the arrows in his quiver and began to shoot aimlessly, until one of the arrows found his friend and teacher, Chiron, wounding him in his leg.  Chiron forgave Hercules for his short sighted error. Thus, Chiron came to be known as the Wounded Healer. Here was a test of one’s faith.  Full Moons tend to draw out our energy and some of us will want to overindulge in food and drink, but we must be careful not to hurt others while in an inebriated state. Otherwise, we may not be wise in our buoyancy and create needless crisis.

Indeed, this is the Full Moon to enjoy a social gathering in the outdoors with friends, family and colleagues. Sitting around a warm fire can imbue many philosophic conversations. Avoid too much gossip and remember; where one finger is pointing, three are pointing back. We all have our tales to tell, try to focus upon the stories that inspire. This is a fire moon that can raise the light of consciousness like a flame to illuminate the darkness of ignorance.  Remember…the Sun is always shining whether in a shroud of cloud or illuminating the other side of the planet. Both Sun and Rain give birth to all the colours of the visible light spectrum.

Sagittarius is also affiliated with the planet Jupiter which is the largest in our Solar System. Due to its size, it has been associated with joy, opportunity, expansiveness, abundance and luck. It had the potential to be another Sun in our galaxy. It is also associated with faith. When the Sun is in Sagittarius, a lot of people celebrate the Season of the Light Bringers of Faith in December. We are reminded of that faith when the light of the Full Moon in Sagittarius shines brightly in the early summer sky. Again, it will be followed by the longest days of the year. Time for summer fun! This is the Full Moon to take a leap of faith. So try to be optimystic and reach for the sky before you reach for the stars.

This year the Full Moon coincides with the Summer Solstice on June 20, 2016 in the Northern Hemisphere lighting up both the day and night!

New Moon in Scorpio

scorpio

November 11, 2015  9:47 am  PST

The Sun and the Moon engage in their mo(o)nthly union with the New Moon in Scorpio. The energy seems to be most powerful in the hidden depths of our being. Sometimes referred to as the Dark Moon because it is not visible. The impact that it has upon our planet and our moods can vary due to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon conjunct. Birth Charts with even a few major planets in a water sign or 8th House tend to be more emotionally intense than usual.  If you have access to your Birth Chart you can see what area or House is being affected by looking at 21 degrees Scorpio. The fact that the New Moon in Scorpio is about exploring ways in which to channel our Personal Power and to use it wisely with regard to our own Personal Transformation by revealing the hidden aspects of the power struggle that exists in all of us.

The Sun (ego), Moon (emotion) and Mercury (Communication) will all be transiting Scorpio this morning.

“It is easier to understand a child who is afraid of the dark than a man who is afraid of the light”

Why do we fear the dark? When we open the door to a room void of light it allows the light to pour in. Power contains both positive and negative charges. A battery requires both these charges. Energy implodes or explodes. There is an intensity of restlessness harnessed by the secrets of the universe at this time.  The media reports the news of death and destruction.  The ending of political power in some parts of the world and the rising of new regimes elsewhere. Technology continues to seek and probe the outer limits. NASA just discovered water (hydrogen and oxygen) in the form of ice and steam in a dark crater of  the Moon…which scientists have said was merely a dead rock orbiting the Earth.

In the Northern Hemisphere it is the Season of Dying…in the Celtic tradition it marks the time of Winter. The Wheel of the Seasons bring change. The Earth is consuming what  she gave birth to in the Spring taking it back into her womb to be transmuted and reborn again in Spring. All the decay is returning to the soil feeding the creatures that exist in a cold, dark and mysterious place.  Imagine what is going on beneath the surface feeding the deep roots of plants and trees that seek the light of the Sun to be reborn into beautiful blossoms. As the nights grow longer, the temperatures decline and some of us begin to feel more isolated, remaining indoors where it is warm and cozy. We enter into the Sacred Silence. Scorpio is named after the scorpion who has the ability to sting itself again and again. I know many Scorpio types with a tough veneer able to be protective of their intense emotions unless provoked by an outsider who will cause their venom to surface with an emotional sting like the scorpion. Be willing to peer beyond the veneer and respect what truth may be hidden there.

The Snake is also associated with Scorpio (Transformation/Rebirth) due to the ability to shed its old skin and re-emerge anew. The Serpent at the base of the spine known as Kundalini Energy can be awakened through certain Tantric Sexual Practices. Scorpio rules the Sexual Energy and Reproductive Organs. Sexual Energy is very powerful and must be respected and honoured in every individual. Just as the Sun and Moon are in symbolic union during this phase, we may feel the urge to connect with another on a deeply sexual level. Sharing sexual energy with another being can be a very intense and liberating expression without depleting it for purely selfish reasons. It isn’t meant to be about conquest but more about inquest into the intimacy (into-me-see) between ourselves and others. Personally, I feel that we are all Spiritual/Sensual/Sexual Beings and that we need to honour those levels of expression with integrity. After all,  it is one of the key ingredients in the elixir of Love. The Power of Love rather than the Love of Power.

Secrecy is another aspect to Scorpio and our willingness to become Soul Detectives bringing the flashlight into the dark to address the more negative side to our being. We need to be shining that bright light into our own eyes and interrogating ourselves and to see with our inner eyes the disguise that we don’t always need to wear. If we face our own fear we are able to bring it into the light and own it rather than projecting it onto others. So many myths have been written about the Scorpio archetypes and have been woven into stories of unsolved mysteries and crimes. Alas, like the Phoenix rises from its own ashes, we also can arise from the ashes of our own ignorance and fear. Secrets seem to breed the very thing that we attempt to hide. Again, taking back our power also means being responsible for our dark side rather than projecting it  onto others. Even though we may not always see the writing on the wall of our subconscious, like the Dark Moon that is not visible but we know it is there like the answers to our own mystery. It is not about power over others but power over ourselves.

It is a great Lunation Cycle to seek out solutions to help us transform and heal ourselves and each other. We journey together upon the path of Life between Birth and Death. To Be Here Now requires a surrendering of desire to inspire us. I think of the Tao and the Sacred Dance of the Light and the Dark. Take a good look into the mirror and ask some profound and meaningful questions that you truthfully seek to answer. What ever you do, dare to be yourself because this is the time to look beyond the veil.

If we give her back her diamond…she will offer up her pearl… ~Dead Can Dance

Full Moon in Gemini

Johfra Gemini

December 6, 2014  4:26 am  PST

The Sun is currently in Sagittarius igniting the Holy-day Season by marking the beginning of the many Festivals of Light honoured during these the darkest days of the year. The Full Moon is solitary in Gemini facing the Sun with all of its luminous beauty. This combination can make our Spirits Bright as we think about how we celebrate our faith or perhaps how others view it as a philosophical question asking what are we truly celebrating? Or we may feel conflicted by the seeming double standards that are witnessed by the frenetic pace of people rushing about…in their quest for value and meaning…and the reason for the Season. It can feel like a bi-polar moon!

A vast majority of religions celebrate the Birth of the Light during this month. It is an affirmation and dedication to the many Beings of Light who have been Spiritual Torch Bearers throughout the millennium.

Jupiter rules Sagittarius helping to expand our faith in the true meaning of the holy-days…Sun (Core), Mercury (Communication), Venus (Love) and Uranus (Community) currently tenanting this fire sign. People travel short and long distances to be with family and loved ones. To come together and share in the Feast of Abundance and to nestle with one another in the warmth and comfort of the hearth and home. Discussions are shared in the guise of heated debates over shallow and misguided thoughts and others are engaged in deep meaningful conversations sharing each others stories of faith, hope and love.

The Full Moon in Gemini can also make us more restless and anxious as we prepare for all of the many festivities that are celebrated during this time. Office parties are being held and would be a great time to let loose and just be who we are as opposed to what we think we are. We may think we know it all, only to discover that we are pulling the wool over our own eyes when we could be knitting that wool into a sweater that we could gift to someone else. It is a beneficial time to share ideas or new concepts with friends and colleagues as it is the Social Networking Moon.

Again, Communication is a key component of Gemini and this is a time to get those letters, cards and parcels off to loved ones to make it safely through the hustle and bustle of the season. No one wants to be alone during this time. Turn off the TV and attend a Holy-day concert or one of the many Festival of Light Celebrations talking over a cup of warm holy-day cheer with others.

This would be a great moon to be inspired with gift giving ideas. It’s not all about overspending and stressing out in the consumption of too many needless things, only to end up feeling exhausted and resentful for having endured the long line ups and expensive purchases. Think expansive rather than expensive. Too much of something can end up being a whole lot of nothing. We have many gifts that we can create and share with others.

Sometimes the Gemini Sun, Moon or Rising person is the social butterfly on the fly needing to know why…and loving a good conversation whether behaving friendly of flippant.  Too much talk can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children’s game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person’s ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context. This is where Mercury the ruler of Gemini plays the trickster teaching us the wisdom in foolishness or even the foolishness in wisdom.

Communication with others may go back and forth and become passive/aggressive. It is not the best time to rationalize feelings as there can be so much mental clutter in our heads that cause confusion for ourselves and other. Travel plans can be unexpectedly thwarted…so be prepared for delays and exercise patience in all of these matters.

This is the Full Moon of Communion with our Higher Aspirations. It is the dance of the Light and Dark Twins in each of us. The Dark Twin being our Shadow which seems to surface during the Dark Time of the year as we catch glimpses of it wherever there is Light that is too bright  like the blinding Sun. You can gaze at the Moon for hours and endless nights only to witness the changing phases due to the shadow effect. Eclipses bring an opportunity to feel what or whom eclipses the Light in our own lives or whether we overshadow others with our own Shadow side.

Sun. Moon and Rising Gemini can feel the swift change of moods also. Flipping from one side of the coin to another. We are all gifts of the Cosmos wrapped and adorned in a myriad of colourful expression; some more decorated than others. However, it is what is inside us that is the actual gift of our own soul personality.

If you can purchase a live Tree for the holy-days you will be able to return it and regift it to Mother Earth for others to enjoy.

Finally, let us be as the Three Magi and keep our eyes upon the North Star and the hope that it symbolizes. The gifts of Light, Life and Love are to be cherished. The Return of the Invincible Sun Sol Invictus will mark the Winter Solstice in just a few weeks.  Be mindful that there are many pathways that seek the Light and when choosing a holy-day greeting consider the many holy-day feasts and rituals that may not where the same mask but share the same Divine Light.

So, eat, drink and be merry! Take care of each other and journey safely! Most of all, enjoy the Magic of the Season…and may the Lamb and the Lion in each and everyone of your hearts lay down together in peace…Happy Holy Days!

New Moon in Leo

Leonine

August 6,  2013   2:50 pm   PDT

The Sun and the Moon are both conjunct in the lion’s den within the Fire Sign of Leo.  This turns up the summer heat…and at some point all of us want to feel hot!  This can be like a handful of Sweet Hearts Candy where one says: Kiss Me, and another: Love Sucks. Which one am I going to taste? Bitter or Sweet?  It is said that the most ferocious heart needs love the most. The timid heart craves affection but is afraid to open up to it. With Mercury (Communication) still in moody Cancer…soon to be in Leo again… we may need to tend to affairs of the heart through the theater of the mind with a cast of thoughts acting  out drama after drama. Sometimes we create drama when when we are lacking true passion and compassion in our lives. With Mercury just out of Retrograde we may need to practice better communication skills especially with old lovers and friends that make a reappearance in our lives during this time.

The High Tide of Summer…the Sun rules Leo.  We are now at the mid-point between Summer and Autumn.  Many people are vacationing and allowing their innerchild to explore the world with a renewed sense of innocence.  The world is a stage and people want to act out many types of roles in the Sacred Drama of Life.  It is not surprising then to watch as people are willing to take risks such as: skydiving, river rafting, bungee jumping or simply taking the plunge into uncharted waters.  Everyone wants to be the center of attention at some point in order to receive attention and gain recognition.  Leo is about the Lion King teaching us about loyalty, devotion and pride.

All the world is a stage and we all play our part in it. Leo wants to be in the spotlight and receive due recognition. Some of us will create drama in our lives in order to get attention. The New Moon pulls us inward to where our wounds lay hidden beneath superficial masks of comedy and tragedy.  Love is the absence of fear, so be fearless. To have courage literally translates to have heart. It takes courage to risk being hurt when dealing with affairs of the heart. If you want to be loved, then love. Some people are too proud to risk wearing their heart upon their sleeve. They claim that they have been hurt and betrayed too many times and are unwilling to open their chakra center. They would rather be stubborn and allow that proverbial thorn in the lion’s paw to keep them wounded and ferocious. Perhap’s the thorn that pierces their wounded heart could be gently removed by an act of compassion and love.

The Tarot Deck contains a card called the Sun and it usually depicts a child riding upon a horse in a field of sunflowers beneath a huge yellow sun. Yellow is the colour of the Solar Plexus which is the chakra that contains our power.  Power over one’s self is greater and more challenging than attempting to gain power over others. It is about confidence and happiness.
Sunflowers are in full bloom as they lift their warm colourful heads in adoration of the Sun. They are the tallest flower reaching for the Solar Light. The colours of the earth are muted in a golden brown and many crops are preparing for harvest.  What can we harvest from within our own heart?  Just remember that the Sun shines for us all!

Mercury had been in Retrograde  for a few weeks until November 24, 2012 in the Sign Scorpio  communication and profound thoughts that deeply transform us next to the Sun. If we our mindful of the tricky lessons that the Winged Messenger brought to our attention. We noticed communication devices breaking down or perhaps we overheard comments regarding unusual behaviour with a cash register or computer.  We tend to misplace things at the time believing them to be lost forever…but then objects long forgotten suddenly reappear.People from our past can also make an unexpected appearance.  Mercury in Retrograde is also a great time to slow down and rethink, redo, review, repeat, revise and return to innocence.

It is an affirmation and dedication to the many Beings of Light who have been Spiritual Torch Bearers throughout the millenia. This year the Full Moon occurs on the Winter Solstice marking the longest night of the year.

Jupiter rules Sagitarius helping to expand our faith in the true meaning of the holy-days. People travel short and long distances to be with family and loved ones. To come together and share in the Feast of Abundance and to nestle with one another in the warmth and comfort of the hearth and home. Discussions are shared in the guise of heated debates over shallow and misguided thoughts and others are engaged in deep meaningful conversations sharing each others stories.

The Full Moon in Gemini can also make us more restless as we prepare for all of the many festivities that are celebrated during this time.

Take the time to enjoy sharing stories and the fondest of memories. No one wants to be alone during this time. Turn off the TV and attend a Holy-day concert or one of the many Festival of Light Celebrations talking over a cup of warm holy-day cheer with others.

This would be a great moon to be inspired with gift giving ideas. It isn’t all about overspending and stressing out in the consumption of too many needless things, only to end up feeling exhausted and resentful for having endured the long line ups and expensive purchases.

Mercury has been in Retrograde since December 10th and will continue until month’s end.  It is currently in Capricorn which tends to be serious and limit our ability to communicate effectively. Thoughts and conversations may fluctuate from optimism to pessimism and even create tension where it is not needed in communication. Boundaries may be crossed which again can lead to needless conflict when engaging with others. If we our mindful of the tricky lessons that the Winged Messenger brings to our attention. We notice communication devices breaking down or perhaps we overhear comments regarding unusual behaviour with a cash register or computer.  We tend to misplace things at this time believing them to be lost forever…but then objects long forgotten suddenly reappear.People from our past can also make an unexpected appearance.  Mercury in Retrograde is also a great time to slow down and rethink, redo, review, repeat, revise and return to innocence.

During this Full Moon we are going to experience a Total Lunar Eclipse that will be visible (with clear skies)in North America beginning on December 20th at 10:30 pm PST when the Earth starts to shadow the light of the Sun until the 21st at 2:01 am PST. An opportunity to feel what or whom eclipses the Light in our own lives or whether we overshadow others with our Dark side.

Finally, let us be as the Three Magi and keep our eyes upon the North Star and the hope that it symbolises. The gifts of Light, Life and Love are to be cherished. The Return of the Invincible Sun Sol Invictus will mark the Winter Solstice this night.
