New Moon in Libra

… there is a universal justice ~ and the eyes of truth are always watching…

The Sun (Core) and the Moon (Mood) merge in the Air Sign Libra seeking balance and harmony with self and with others. Venus (Attraction) is also in Libra and rules this Air Sign. This is also the New Moon of the Sacred Union between any inharmonious energy dynamics. Each of us are faced with moments in which we need to assess opposing forces in our lives and to weigh them upon the scales of Balance and Justice. Try to remove the blindfold of Injustice and see that everything is beautiful in its own way and that includes each and everyone of us. The mood seems to be one of fluctuation…weighing the pros and cons in the search for liberty, justice, peace and harmony. In certain parts of the world the scales remain unfairly imbalanced. Social injustice is being addressed on many issues…and seems to come round again when the sun and moon are conjunct in Libra …including Libra’s realm of partnerships, equality, equity, union and attraction.

Most people are familiar with the Law of Attraction but seem to negate the Law of Repulsion. When we accept that certain energy (even the energy within each of us) is sometimes repelling in order to achieve harmony and to accept its unique way. Positive and Negative are both equal and necessary charges and without them we simply can not recharge our batteries. We need to empty so that we may fill. Good/Evil, Happy/Sad, Light/Dark, Sparse/Dense, Yin/Yang, Head/Heart are on the axis of opposites. Movement is ebb and flow. If the scales were completely still, they would in essence become stagnant, boring and without motion.

if there are no ups and downs in life…you’re dead.

Libra marks the first day of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. As the cool weather draws near and the nights grow longer, many people want to nest with a companion. Venus (Aphrodite) the Goddess of love is blowing a kiss with thought and feeling about merging with Other. All in not fair in love and war…or so it goes. It is the perfect New Moon to deal with relationship issues on all levels, including the relationship that we experience with ourselves. Be willing to risk honesty when weighing our own heart with the feather of our own truth. Be fair when someone professes a truth that you are not in agreement with.  Each may be a truth according to their own experience and viewpoint. If we need to refine any agreements in our intimate relations, then now is the moment to initiate them.

sun lights up the daytime, moon lights up the night

A ritual of love and beauty can be performed in any romantic setting: A fire with lots of candles or ambient lighting with sensual adornments like a red rose of love or a white lily of eros. Of course, water cleanses…why not enjoy a luxurious bubble bath infused with the most delicious essential oils like lavender, orange and vanilla or better yet rose oil from the rose flower associated with Venus? Treat your self to something of beauty. Remember to look beyond the Vanity Mirror of superficial beauty and look at the many beautiful mirrors of our loved ones who also reflect our inner beauty.

We all desire to be valued and loved. Are there any friends or family that you need to express your love and appreciation to?  Perhaps there has been an injustice that needs to be addressed. Can we meet upon a common ground of acceptance and not take rejection to heart? Indeed this Lunation Cycle begins with decision making. If we are the Universe’s way of knowing itself, then Peace and Harmony truly begins with each and everyone one of us.

The Sun (Motivation) and the Moon (Mood) are in the Venus (Love, Beauty, Attraction) ruled Earth Sign of Taurus, which is named after the Minotaur.  There is a Greek myth about the Labyrinth and the Bull named after King Minos of Crete.  In modern times, the Labyrinth is still used as a meditative and symbolic pathway.  On our personal journey toward the within, we sometimes find ourselves wandering further away from our center, only to discover that we are actually navigating closer to it.  This is the time to dig deep within ourselves to discover what truly makes us feel secure.

Security is experienced on many levels, particularly the realm of matter or the material realm.  How many of us live our lives with a false sense of security?  Here is the perfect Moon Cycle to question the meaning of being secure on every level.  Money does not create emotional security.  Love does not create financial security (although partnership can).  Like the many gardeners that get their hands dirty cultivating the soil of their gardens, we can also unearth some of the misconceptions that have been planted in our own Secret Garden and fertilized with a lot of bull that stifles our personal growth.
Why is it that some people are able to make us feel secure, while others make us feel insecure?  I believe it is all about investment.  Who and what do we invest in?  Are we giving and receiving our fair share?  Do we own our possessions or do our possessions own us?  Do we merely borrow our existence or do we own it?  When we feel we are not being respected or honored for our efforts, we may become insecure.
Superficially, we are defined by what we do rather than who we are.  We enter the secular world or realm of the senses…our body temple with nothing of material value or meaning and we depart from it with nothing .  Yet we are conditioned constantly by marketing schemes to convince us to purchase things that we do not necessarily need; or eventually that we do not want.  Again, it is the attachment to the sentiment, rather than the object itself that the Taurus type wants to hold on to.  After all, eventually you will be thrown off by the bull, both literally and figuratively.
Taurus loves the textiles of the earth and has been known to collect antiques.  It is also a very creative and practical sign.  Taurus is slow and placid.  Stubborn and persistent.  Many Taurus  Sun, Moon or Rising are skilled in attracting money and making investments. The Bank teller of the astrological signs. Many will admit that they are clumsy like a bull in a china shop.  Patience is a virtue.  Remember, Ferdinand the Bull taking the time to smell the roses.  However, if a person with a lot of Taurus in their chart does lose their patience, they will charge headstrong with the force of a raging bull.

The Sun and Moon have both transited out of Aries.  Mercury (Communication) and Venus (Attraction) are also in the cautious sign Taurus.  It may feel like a war of the roses or a bonfire of the vanities during such phases.  In each of these personal areas of our lives we are affected depending upon which House they are transiting during this time in our birth chart. While some will be springing into positive action and taking up the challenge…others may become restless, irritated and stubborn to the point of conflict. Use this Lunation cycle to take the the time to find a seed within your own heart and bring forth a flower…Deep breathing allows us to slow down and ground to the sound of our own drum.  The sister of passion is compassion. Be assertive rather than aggressive.

Goddess on the mountaintop and Venus was her name…she is the May Queen that flirts with the earth…now covered in green and embroidered with colourful flowers during the Merry Month of May. Think about our earth’s resources and how insufficiently they are being distributed.  There are enough natural resources to feed, shelter and clothe those who live in poverty.  We all need to grab the bull by the horns and harness its power and connection to Mother Earth.  If we give her back her diamond, she will offer up her pearl. ~Dead Can Dance

The Sun is in Gemini and the Moon is Full in the Sign of Sagitarius. This combo says: Think Big! It seems as though everything in nature is buzzing with communication, while the days are significantly longer and warmer, making plans for the summer. This is the Full Moon of Spontaneity! We need to get out of our heads and to expand our conscious awareness. Our thoughts can be direct and focused upon the goals that we aspire to achieve. Mercury (Communication) and Venus (Love and Attraction) are also in the Gemini which may be inundating some of us with too much information…keeping us in our head rather than our heart. Refer to New Moon in Gemini to understand the beginning of this Lunar Cycle.

There is going to be a Total Eclipse of the Moon when the Earth shadows the light of the Sun upon the lunar surface. Unfortunately it will not be visible locally but of course one can view the event online. Many Astrologers believe that the Lunar Eclipse affects the area in our charts that it is transiting. I often think of Bonnie Tyler’s song: Total Eclipse of the Heart whenever an eclipse occurs. We often eclipse the light within our own heart by too much rational thinking and judgement…be mindful of blocking the light by overshadowing others with our own projections whether positive or negative.

There is a wonderful Greek myth about Hercules and his mentor, Chiron. Chiron was the Wise (Sage) Centaur (half-human/half-animal) who was a Great Teacher. Teaching, education and higher learning are all associated with Sagitarius. One day, Hercules went to seek the counsel of his Wise Teacher, where upon his arrival, he was met by a group of Centaurs that were drinking wine. In the short version of this myth, Hercules became impatient and bored while his Teacher was absent and began to also drink some wine. Later, when he was intoxicated, Hercules could hear the sound of hooves stomping upon the ground and became nervous. Lacking focus, Hercules reached for the arrows in his quiver and began to shoot aimlessly, until one of the arrows found his friend and teacher, Chiron, wounding him in his leg. Chiron forgave Hercules for his short sighted error. Thus, Chiron came to be known as the Wounded Healer. Here was a test of one’s faith.  Full Moons tend to draw out our energy and some of us will want to overindulge in food and drink, but we must be careful not to hurt others while in an inebriated state. Otherwise, we may not be wise in our buoyancy.

The Full Moon in June is often referred to as Strawberry Moon, Rose Moon and Honeymoon…which makes sense when we take a look around and see fresh strawberries growing, roses blooming and many couples marry. June is named after the Great Goddess of Rome: Juno. The longest day of the year occurs during this month in the Northern Hemisphere and so begins the long awaited season of Summer. A perfect Moon for love…mmmmmm…strawberries and roses…and some honey to sweeten the mood.

Indeed, this is the Full Moon to enjoy a social gathering in the outdoors with friends, family and colleagues. Sitting around a warm fire can imbue many philosophic conversations. Avoid too much gossip and remember; where one finger is pointing, three are ponting back. We all have our tales to tell, try to focus upon the stories that inspire. This is a fire moon that can raise the light of consciousess like a flame to illuminate the darkness of ignorance. Remember…the Sun is always shining whether in a shroud of cloud or illuminating the other side of the planet. Both Sun and Rain give birth to all the colours of the visible light spectrum.

Sagitarius is also affiliated with the planet Jupiter which is the largest in our Solar System. Due to its size, it has been associated with joy, opportunity, expansiveness, abundance and luck. It had the potential to be another Sun in our galaxy. It is also associated with faith. When the Sun is in Sagitarius, alot of people celebrate the Season of the Light Bringers of Faith in December. We are reminded of that faith when the light of the Full Moon in Sagitarius shines brightly in the early summer sky. Again, it will be followed by the longest days of the year. Time for summer fun! This is the Full Moon to take a leap of faith. So try to be optimystic and reach for the sky before you reach for the stars.
